It is a crucial time of the season for what, no-one can deny, is a hard working, enthusiastic and dedicated set of players and coaching staff. As they prepare for the end-of-season, the least they deserve is the support of all who claim to be fans of Oldham RLFC. With that in mind, I suggest it is time to put the 'politcs' to one side until the end of our season and just talk rugby. What a welcome change that would be!!
Of course, I expect that I will be labelled 'a lunatic' for this simple request, so no change there!
Anyway, the best of luck to Scott, Spanner and all the lads in the weeks ahead. They deserve it.
COME ON THE ROUGHYEDS
Just watch them come out of the woodwork again should we get to the playoff final though.
Don't think this matters this season as long as we get to the play off final and win that's all there is to play for, only the winner of the play off gets promoted there is nothing for finishing top other than an home advantage.
Still having said that it's a poor performance today
To be honest there doesn't seem much to chat about this season, home games are few and far between (a month to the next home game ridiculous) and people are finding other things to do, and get out of the habit of going to the games.
I know of at least 6 people who were loyal supporters home and away who never attend games now
I cannot believe what I am reading here....Are you guys really Oldham Rugby Fans?.
Anyone who has had the pleasure of dealing with the megalomaniac that is the beloved CH, will know the man is worthy of the descriptions posted recently. He way he so graciously speaks to others i'm sure he will not mind a few truthful descriptions of his appearance and demeanor.
He has personally driven away numerous staff, fans sponsors and investors leading the team into the RL wastelands. He has taken money out of the club and literally gotten FAT whilst this has happened (this is not rude just an accurate description of the mans physical appearance - for those sensitive children of CH out there!).
We are in a real mess- a cannot see a way that we can get out of this mess. Even if the team improve, finally get a promotion we are hampered by the ground and dwindling support (also a result of poor management). My only hope if that we fall into administration and someone with a REAL passion for ORL takes the club on.
There are three better ran rugby clubs in our town, several football teams and numerous cricket clubs all run on good will - Not as a status symbol for a *&%@$% &%@(@^@^ (ill save the CH brigade the time to edit the comment).
Again your comments are ill founded,. I was one of the editors of your rude personal attack on CH's person (which had nothing to do with his running of the club) but was a personal attack on him.
To class me and others in the CH brigade is an insult, my family and I have more reason than most to dislike the man, but I would not stoop to the comments made about him.
I support the team NOT CH, and will continue to do so through thick and thin
I have got to agree Steve, another point that is being missed is the poor fixture organisation by the RFL, we are now some 4 weeks into the season and played one home game? Not everyone can afford or is able to travel to away match's especially considering the distance now involved.
Like yourself I have been a supporter for over 60 years, starting going with my Grandad when I was 5 years old. With my family we used to support home and away rarely missing a game.
I now cannot afford to do this, and with the lack of a regular home program have found that instead of being enthused by the game it has now become something of a chore to fit in between doing other things.
I agree the only way to move forward is to attract more fans. Unfortunately for oldham there is a lot of competition for disposable income and many fans do not see value 4 money at whitebank. Unfortunately sport has an uncanny knack of turning sound business people into idiots. We appear to of found a idiot businessman and turned him into a rugby man. Who had heard of hamilton before he saw a chance to make some money! Every club has their own story of why, and we have ours. If done properly rugby league is an awesome product and will bring in fans. We should look at superleague successes for comparison. If ee are satisfied that swinton are deeper in the ###### than us we will never move forward.
I agree with your statement that rugby league is an awesome product but the RFL isn't, as for looking at Super League successes where are they?
The RFL is responsible for the plight of all the current problems in Rugby League at the moment with no signs of any improvement.
Rugby League is dying on its feet but the powers that be do not seem to see it nor do they care not about the divisions below Super League.
You may not like CH and let me assure you I have more reason not to like him more than most, but what can he do when there is no revenue stream for the club like now, players are reporting for pre season training and costs for this have to be met, no one knows what the fixtures are going to be for next season yet, even the RFL don't know, they still haven't informed the club regarding the running of the under 20s team this season.
If the fixtures are anything like last year and they will probably be worse, with no Northern Rail Cup, the club has no chance of generating a revenue stream and can only rely on the fans turning up.
It's alright moaning about the ground and CH but how can he plan anything with the indecision from the RFL.
If CH really wanted the game he could have played it at Ashton, Sedgley Park or what about Saddleworth Rangers?
You lot are deluded. I couldn't agree more that our ground is a dump but rightly or wrongly it meets RFL requirements . What will you do if you draw us away in the cup? If you don't want to come for the law cup don't come but don't try and say we should play it elsewhere .
It's a shame it's not going ahead, Hornets v Biffs is the best game all year. I hope there's some sort of Cup game that includes us two.
Got to agree if the RFL have approved Whitebank even if it's not the best ground. What does it say about Hornets. that they are frightened to death about getting beaten by a team in a lower division, before they even try to prove they are worthy of promotion.
But what's the alternative with little or no funds? I'm sure the club are doing all they can to move things forward but money is hard to come by. Unless someone with loads of cash comes along! Surely Whitebank is better than no ground at all.
Got to agree here Tosh at least we are not Nomads like we have been, people have short memories I can remember how glad everyone was when the news broke that we had got Whitebank.
One of the major problems for the club is the lack of revenue stream generated by home games (not enough) and the incurred costs in travelling the distance to away matches. As I have previously stated the RFL should look at the seasonal fixtures and ensure they are such that the clubs have regular home and away fixtures without the constant breaks that we experience last year.
We all know that we are not going to progress far in the cup competitions especially when the big boys come into the reckoning but we could do without the breaks in play when we are knocked out.
