Featherstone - trouble at mill?
Jimmy B replied to DoubleD's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
Can’t see how a new company raising funds, using Featherstone Rovers premises and company name, by selling merchandise and holding social events can be right - unless off course approved by the administrator. As griff has pointed out there is no guarantee that Rovers Retail, Rovers Events or Rovers 2026 will be deemed fit take over the licence for championship rugby in 2027. So where will profits from these ventures go if they don’t ? -

Hi Andrew, so your last comment begs the question “how would the present England side have done against the 1982 Kangaroos” ? I personally think That Rugby League in the UK needs to get rid of the people who have run and influenced decision making since the advent of SL and replace them with coaches who aim to produce players with the right skills and not rely on the robotic procedures which present day coaches seem the produce. Two tries in three matches, no line breaks at all in the second test and a team so lacking in creativity tells it all. -
My claim is that the reasons given for the formation of Super League Europe i.e. to get competitive against the Aussies and to expand the game in London and Paris - have not materialised. The “visionaries” big ideas have failed. The way the game has gone, certain people are richer but the game has gone backwards in terms of beating Australia and now teams below Super League can only be described as semi-amateur- not semi-professional.

If you were around in 1995 there were three so called visionaries who were prominent. One is still involved and again if you were around at that time you should know who they were. Again as you probably well know, in an attempt to humiliate people who opposed the original super league framework we’re dubbed dinosaurs.

Absolutely correct. The so called “visionaries” from 1995 have ruined this once great sport. We were going to become a match for the Aussies and Super league was going to become a competition everyone would flock to to watch in London and Paris. Well after 30 years you “visionaries” have failed ! All those who have been running the game since the influx of Murdochs money have totally squandered it and should resign if they are still involved. This Ashes series has done nothing but prove the so called “dinosaurs” right.

I am sure any administrator / receiver appointed will want to know. -

I can only speak for myself, I hold both A shares and B shares but I have no recollection of receiving any notifications, balance sheets or anything else from Featherstone Rovers for at least the last ten years. According to companies house records Steven Clough is listed as a director (resigned) but his occupation is stated as being a Chief Executive Officer - does that mean he was CEO of Featherstone Rovers at the time he was appointed a director. I personally would not know the man if I fell over him. -

I own both an A share and a substantial amount of B shares. I have no recollection of being notified of any proposed meeting to discuss the matter of changing land designation. -
An 8 team league has been seen before. Remember the 8 team second division devised by a Mr G Hetherington - the so-called Hetherington plan. As you say it would give a competitive Super League season made up of clubs who are backed by rich benefactors. Let’s face it there is no club at present in the Championship who are ready to step up into SL, either stadium wise or financially and at the moment it would be easy to reduce 12 to 8, simply relegate the bottom 4. Salford and Castleford - neither having the resources to compete in SL - Huddersfield - having insufficient fans and leaving the stadium, playing in which was a big influence in getting into SL in the first place and Catalans reportedly not being wanted due to lack of visiting fans. Yes an 8 team SL would be boring to some extent but at least clubs below could have realistic numbers in the second and third tiers rather than the nonsense being spouted regarding seven team conferences.
