Head contact is an automatic penalty, no ifs, no buts. The ref makes a decision then based on how it happened, its simple really.

The point is refs have a hierarchy of offences, they also don't blow for offences immediately all the time as they wait and see, its called advantage. When players have been told what is top of the list for the season nobody should be surprised if they get penalised for what is on the list. He played the ball illegally, he was an utter numpty, he would probably have got a penalty if he didn't try to milk one. Is he the only player who didn't get the memo. As for your last line what the fek are you on about.

Irrelevant, players have been told you will be penalised for playing the ball illegally. If you want a penalty wait for the ref to give it, don't try to milk it. He knew he was being pulled back but decided to play the ball illegally thinking he could get a penalty, he didn't tough.

I said an extreme example. Offences carry weight and refs play a wait and see game very often (advantage) to see what happens.. Players have been told, do not play the ball illegally as you will be penalised, it has obviously been given priority. Totally the ball players fault. Why did he try to play the ball knowing someone was pulling him back?

That isn't how it works, an extreme example, if a player knocks on and then thumps somebody, it isn't a scrum.

So he should not have tried to play the ball as he couldn't get himself in the right position to do it legally. As I said before, if he hadn't tried to milk the penalty, he would probably have got the penalty.

If he hadn't tried to play the ball illegally he would probably have got the penalty he was trying to get.
