  1. I remember Brian Smith suggesting something very similar decades ago (I've got a feeling it was in a piece he did for Open Rugby magazine). It gained zero traction back then but I think there's a lot of merit in it.
  2. Sorry to hear that. Terrific player.
  3. Steam rising from the packs, plenty of biff, jumpers for goalposts. Loving it.
  4. Very similar to my early memories of the Threepenny Stand at the Boulevard around the same era. That and the smell of liniment on Clive Sullivan's racehorse legs as he stood in front of us waiting for the kick-off.
  5. Think I'll opt to watch this one live too. Looks the most interesting contest of the three.
  6. Horrific sight, the sort of thing you never forget.
  7. I'd always assumed our garden's annual visitors were goldcrests but from what you say they could be passage migrant firecrests.
  8. The Hull trawler Gaul, lost with all 36 hands in the Barents Sea on this day 50 ago. Brother of Gaul trawler victim reflects on 50-year anniversary
  9. Perished in the same mysterious blaze. It had become a Dingwalls music venue by then and Scamps had been relaunched as Odyssey.
  10. They do seem to be getting a bit of a foothold in the Hull area but I wouldn't get too excited, mate. By German standards I find their beers pretty mediocre. Their wheat beer is one of the blandest I've ever tasted. That's just my palate though, other people might enjoy them and they're a decent commercial partner to have on board.
  11. Pretty sure that honour belongs to Weihenstephaner. They celebrate their millennium sometime this century.
  12. In Yorkshire we wouldn't even need the mirror.
  13. Plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the new season if you're a Wigan fan. Less so for we Hull fans.
  14. Hull at home to Wigan at 2pm this afternoon in Scott Taylor's testimonial game. Both teams have named their strongest sides so it should be a good run out for the players and hopefully an entertaining one for the fans.
  15. Sad news. Can't have been many bands whose debut was a live album.
  16. Cracker of a drop goal wins it for Stanningley 19-18.
