  1. Rather than play computer games, I actually put some time into my book. 1500 words done today which is probably a new record For the record, a life goal of mine is to write a significantly sized fiction book. I couldn't care less if it sells or not as it's a personal rather than professional/lifestyle goal.
  2. October may be a quiet month after all... A client I was supposed to be doing work for all month has called to say that all "discretionary" work has been postponed indefinitely due to critical budget concerns. Fan bloody tastic. The one and only good thing is that they caught me just as I was leaving to get the train into London. I'd have been a bit ###### if had I managed to get all the way to them in London before they told me. Edit: F*** it, I think I'll play computer games all day and call today a write-off for business purposes.. I'm not really in the right attitude to talk to potential clients and drum up new business.
  3. He handled it perfectly, only needed one yellow and that was in the 70th minute for a late and fairly cynical tackle.
  4. I was assessing a referee at a decent level game of RU yesterday and was listening into the pre-match brief from the ref to the captains. The home team captain told the ref while pointing at the opposing captain: "This c**t shagged my ex-wife while I was married to her. Just a friendly warning that this local derby will have more than it's share of biff." It was 1m20 into the game before the ref had to warn both sides to stop or cards would start. First punch thrown 30s into the game
  5. I have absolutely no idea why but I find myself far more favourably inclined to Camilla than any of the other leeches called the Royal Family.
  6. I got an app from Apple for my iPod that allows me to remote control my computerised output from my iPod anywhere in wireless network range. Gives me full control of iTunes on my PC from my iPod. That allows me to play my music on my stereo downstairs and control it anywhere from my iPod.
  7. There's a group of people walking over the path across the field behind us, all dressed in Christmas stuff. I had to get the wife to check I wasn't hallucinating after her extraordinarily hot curry...
  8. 4:30 is a ridiculous time of the day to get up on a Saturday simply so that I can take the wife shopping to the Next sale
  9. A tip for having a good night's sleep: Do not read the opening part of Stephen King's The Stand, then watch the news covering large scale predictions of swine-flu deaths then go to sleep. It makes for very weird and apocalyptic dreams
  10. Balls... the flying ants are here for their annual pilgrimage. I hope the thunderstorm due this afternoon fries them all.
  11. I'm doing a council "surgery" this afternoon at the election hall, I was disappointed to hear that it doesn't mean doing random appendectomies on people walking past.
  12. I finally got to see the new Star Trek movie last night
  13. It's now a bit hot so I'm back in my study ... pasty northerners don't do too well in the sun.
  14. I'm working from the back garden today. Laptop with wireless connection.
  15. Our neighbourhood Jay seems to like the gardening we did at the weekend and has been in our garden at least two or three times since.
  16. I got my first ever photocard driving license through the post today.
  17. Just spent the best part of 3 hours doing gardening and pressure-washing the patio. If I ever meet the people who were here before us I think I'll beat them silly... A small garden that they paid a lot of money to have designed properly with expensive plants and sandstone paving. What that means is that we have to do weeding fairly regularly to keep the plants alive. Also, because of the trees around our property we get far too much moss all over the paving whenever there's a slight wind with the sandstone blocks turning to a horrible green/grey colour. We also can't let the plants get too long out there because our cats use it as cover to try to ambush the wildlife. I hate gardening.
  18. Tourist photographer case dismissed at Magistrates Court There are some concerning points in there about photography on the London Underground.
  19. At last night's council meeting, one of the members of public was a hugely overweight man, dripping with sweat and puffing away from walking the 20ft from his car to the hall, he also looked like his personal hygiene was learned from the dark ages. The bit that makes this notable is that he was proudly carrying one of those "bag for life" fabric bags from British Naturism. One of the councillors, a retired old lady, looked physically ill when she noticed the bag and had a think about the implications.
  20. I have just been informed that I must attend the wedding of an aunt in Scotland later this year. I have also been informed that the evening will be a ceilidh and that I will be expected to be kilted and dancing those bloody awful highland dances. I still have nightmares from my sister's wedding where she had one of those and I was forced to partake in that ritualised torture.
