  1. I'm going to spend the day building a server. Server 2008 with SQL Server, Sharepoint and a few others. Just to prove to myself that I still can do a good job of basic techy work these days.
  2. The coffee maker just sits there staring at me... the wife however rarely makes me coffee as she can't stand the stuff.
  3. I've got sore knees this morning. Caused by not warming up before or cooling down after playing a game of union last night. Too bloody cold to do either! Once my game had finished, I stayed and watched a bit of the other game going on and ended up with my hair starting to freeze.
  4. I've moved our coffee maker from the kitchen to my office upstairs.
  5. My granddad taught me that one... Punt to the nuts followed by a knee to the face facilitated by two hands pushing down their head if they bent over when punted in the nuts. Alternate that with a headbutt for variety... When you have to move around schools as a kid, especially an English kid going to a Scottish school, you learn to fight dirty and finish fights quickly
  6. Weren't you taught as a kid that the best way to win a fight was to start by punting your opponent in the nuts? Always worked for me...
  7. A swift punt to his balls to start the match will do you wonders.
  8. I have no biscuits to have with my tea. What's worse, my wife is refusing to spend her lunch hour going to the supermarket to buy some for me.
  9. I bought two lottery tickets on Saturday for the first time in about six months, I got 4 numbers and
  10. I worked at Nortel Networks in 2001 when they announced their massive redundancies, we went from a fairly good environment of about 100 people in our small department into a back-stabbing hate fest of people trying to secure the 20 jobs that were being retained. I'm very, very glad that I didn't "survive" that redundancy, it was the best thing that happened to me in a work environment!
  11. So, those 1500 surveys you completed were worth it then? Mr G Jon, Mr Jon Ginger, and so on
  12. I know a lot of techies who use Server 2008 as a client as it's essentially Vista without the bloat such as DRM. I leave UAC on but with my account as an admin. Means I get the ease of running as an admin but with a simplified UAC approval to stop daft things running without permission.
  13. With the forum being down for two days I've actually had to do some work
  14. Back home at last... 3 days at the out-laws is more than enough for me to feel more ill than I already was. Now onto my 2nd type of antibiotics to deal with a minor infection, my blood pressure is 150/110 (normal 110/70 - 120/80), my resting pulse is 90 (normal 55-60), I feel like **** and I couldn't even have a drink. I've promised to subject my wife to my family next Christmas in revenge.
  15. It's not awful, it's just soul-less. She only sang that song because she was told to... Simon Cowell's marketing people probably worked out that it had the best chance to be the big money earner for them. Maybe old-age paranoia creeping in but much of the music nowadays reminds me of the bits in 1984 where they discuss mass-produced populist pish music for the proletariat to keep them happy. Edit: THIS is awful. It is safe for work in that there's no sweary words or nudity but I take no responsibility for what you might do to your computer or any small animals nearby when you watch it. Edit2: THIS is the worst rendition of Hallelujah anywhere... ever... Bono is just pish.
  16. ######ing awful. Absolutely ######ing awful. It took both sides 30 minutes to realise that I meant what I said and well into the second half before it got through their thick skulls that I wasn't tolerating their whining. Easily the least enjoyable game I've ever refereed and I'm still wondering what else I could have done bar red card both captains before kick-off. At least the away team had the good grace to admit after the game that it was their problem that they kept getting caught cheating. Games like that make me wonder why I bother.
  17. Just getting ready for my RU game this afternoon... not looking forwards to it at all. There are two sides in the whole of the East of England who I can't stand and they can't stand me. Today, they have a league match against each other, it's a local derby game and both are under pressure after a few poor results lately. So far this season I've given seven yellow cards, four were against today's home side in one game and two were against the away side. I'm leaving early so that I can have a meeting without coffee with both coaches and captains and let them know that I'm not going to change my reffing style to suit their whining and cheating. It'll go straight through their ears without making contact with any brain cells and I expect to get plenty of use out of my whistle today
  18. Apparently the Nikon S60 can detect up to 12 faces. Proof:
  19. It's down right unreasonable how much she whines... she grumbles when I don't take her anywhere now she's grumbling because I have arranged something as a surprise for her. Wimmen...
  20. I've decided to take up an invitation from a friend to join him and his wife on a tour of the whisky isles of Scotland next April when all the whisky festivals are on. My ungrateful whisky-hating wife wasn't too pleased for some reason.
  21. And add in a good number of 18-21 year old girls for him to perv at
  22. Our smaller cat has just given us an early Christmas, a full-sized rat left dead in the living room. She looks very happy with her gift to us.
