  1. It's usually 1964 in my house but I do play more current music. Two great tracks that you very rarely hear this side of the pond. If you play in a band you'll like the musicianship. You can watch live performances on YouTube. Dave Alvin and the Guilty Ones - " Harlan County Line ". Mighty Mike Schermer - " My Big Sister's Transister Radio".
  2. I know, but he played on a lot of the later stuff like " Hungry For Love " , " Ecstacy ", " I Can Tell ", etc and as The Pirates - " My Babe ", " Casting My Spell ". His sound is unmistakable.
  3. Great stuff, I think that's Mick Green, the master of the Telecaster.
  4. Yeah I've seen Southside Johnny, really got the Tee shirt as well. He was a top live act but The Beatles, they were from another planet.
  5. Not strictly a TV show but it was on telly last night. "Eight Days A Week" . Just showing how good the early Beatles were.
  6. The photo for " The Searchers " is actually of Tony Jackson and his band The Vibrations.
  7. Just watching " Eight a Days A Week " on Channel 4. If there was a better live band than " The Beatles " I never saw them.
  8. I don't think so. " The Guess Who " did a good version but " The Twiliters " have a rough and ready version of it on YouTube. The bit of film the goes with their version makes " Viagra " redundant.
  9. The two great British rock and roll records - " Move It " by Cliff and " Shakin' All Over " by Johnny Kidd.
  10. Sad to hear of the death of Rick Hall this morning. His first big record was a classic - " You Better Move On " by Arthur Alexander.
  11. Going back to my Soul roots today - " You Left The Water Running " - Maurice and Mac.
  12. We were talking about ' Arthur Lee and Love ' the other day. " My Little Red Book " by ' Love ' is a great cover of a Burt Bacharach song.
  13. " Me And Bobby McGee " by Janis Joplin takes some beating as a cover version.
  14. Anybody remember a 70's band called " Any Trouble " ? I always thought " Girls Are Always Right " was a hit that got away.
  15. Phil Spector's Xmas album on a loop at our house today. " Back To Mono ! " The Gene Vincent clip is off a show called " Town Hall Party ". If you like Eddie Cochran he's on some other clips from the same show.
  16. I used to be a collector until I got divorced and my wife got awarded MY record collection as part of the divorce settlement ! Then they say women get a rough deal ? I was allowed the option of buying it back off her ! I couldn't afford that. So that was it. I was too old to start again after 30 years of collecting. I now have most of the stuff I had On CD. There was a programme on TV years ago called " John Lennon's juke box. He had a portable juke box the size of a small suitcase that held about 20 singles. When you think what you can put a match box sized device you have to smile. Anyway one of the records he had on it was " Be Bop A Lu La " and they showed the clip I referred to. That was the first time I ever saw it but I play it all the time since then. It's Gene and the Blue Caps doing a fantastic live version. It really is a terrific bit of old film. They blow the roof off the place. Merry Xmas to you and your collection.
  17. There's a black and white live version of " Be Bop A Lu La " on YouTube that is just terrific.
  18. Yeah, Southside Johnny, brilliant. Try " I'm So Anxious " or " I Don't Wanna Go Home ".
  19. " ( You Are My ) Soul And Inspiration " was one of the best things The Righteous Brothers recorded.
  20. Creedence didn't do many covers, mainly because their own stuff was brilliant, but their version of " The Midnight Special " is really great.
  21. Yeah, it's hopeless but my wife likes it. Bits of it were filmed just down the road from me in Rochdale.
  22. I'm sorry but that doesn't do anything for me, on the other hand the Dionne Warwick version is a thing of beauty.
  23. One of the greatest songs ever. Just as relevant today as it was when he wrote it.
  24. Playing my all time favourite instrumental last night. " Pipeline " by The Chantays.
