  1. Exactly...exactly! Shadow you have an insight that others lack...some of the places out of contact I go to and I think, "I am at the end of an age...the unknown and untrodden places are almost all gone...how fortunate I am to be in Canada and experience this...the most beautiful country in the world with many of the last untouched parts...its like my fingers are tracing the face of the Unknown One." This place was such a special place...untouched by man...the last of the glacial sand dunes from a forgotten time....few know of its location...and even if you know...it is very difficult to get to...took me roughly 25 days of super hard wilderness Kayaking to get to. EDEN! (I stayed there for a long time;the old spirits still live there!)
  2. I know we've just been introduced recently Geordie but for me I would be there when its wet and windy...I go places where other people don't want to be...I like it better that way (just being honest).
  3. I like this one....captures the personality...photography as art.
  4. Just joining the thread on this page...as some know I am an artist/carver in the Haida /Salish traditions..of course I like the visual line (same as everyone else I suppose)
  5. Don't feel bad CKN...my great grandfather was John Smith, my grandfather was John Smith, my father was John Smith and my oldest brother was John Smith when my only son was born I wanted to call him John Smith and my wife would have none of it. WOE AM I!
  6. Can anyone else verify this for me...CKN was only in the 'ARTILLERY' so I certainly will need a verification! P.S. Infantry people will understand the joke...armoured will miss interpretation totally!
  7. I'm a topo map nut but the red symbol with the dots connected by the broken hache...is that a power/transmission line?...and what is the actual man made boundary that goes through the lake (a different county?)...dendritic drainage pattern so lots of places to guerilla camp without being discovered...that hill in the middle of Dufton Fell (can't quite make out the name) looks like a good place to do yoga/meditate. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Don't need to accidentally fall in a mine shaft thats for sure!
  9. After the plow went by the end of the laneway looks like the 'Wall" from Game Of Thrones...gettionmg pumped up to go out there and shovel...a free workout!
  10. Looks pretty...would like to walk my dog there...snowing again here/pretty hard and the wife isn't home yet....highways will be a brute...whiteouts. Lots of accumulation on previous heaps!
  11. Snowing again, getting ready to go out and shovel the laneway again.
  12. I know the monastaries owned certain 'rights' to them before the Reformation but who owns them now?...in Canada they are the property of the Crown (and lakes also), therefore any citizen of the Crown is allowed to use them due to common law (same with all Crown lands which is most of Canada)...I always make a point of camping on Crown land since its free...is it not the same over there? When you say right of access do you mean putting in your boat? Oh My God!...the map you shows looks awful, like a nightmare to dedicated paddler! "The right to paddle", now thats a laugh, now thats a good one...I've never tolerated such nonsense unless there is a very specific reason (e.g dangerous water, habitat protection, etc (must be reasonable) you people are way to complacent over there....FREEDOM! FREEDOM FOR ALL PADDLERS...DOWN WITH THE TYRANNY! Live free and prosper...live free and paddle.
  13. I'd say the windchill here is about -18 C and it has started to snow again...nice nippy walk to work today in about -20? Getting new battery for car today so on foot.
  14. The reason I inquire is that it seems from other posters that your cable, etc is alot different from here and I was just wondering about prices etc. to compare for comparable things...thats all I was wondering...you have different names eg. Sky etc. Do you have basic cable? (How many channels for free...like here I get satellite with 10 channels for free/forever. Do they package the 1000 channels, phones and internet in one and sell as a bundle?....why does everyone have to pay or buy packages to watch games all the time over there? Like what do you mean buy Premier or buy Sky? I don't get it...is everyone on a dish or something...and some websites get blocked for regions from live feed (What???) I think you pay alot more for things over there than we do, but I'm not sure...thats all. And where is the best running water for kayaking...bet over there you need a permit or something to go through the inland water ways in the Dales?...is their regulations, what is the best summer trip,...important stuff like that! (p.s. Is there camping available?)
  15. Went to start the car but the battery is dead due to the cold weather...snowed in...many roads closed...bad windchill...brother made it out of surgery but in ICU for the foreseeable future... GOD DAMNED SNOW!!!! I curse you Old Man Winter!
  16. Now that is funny ckn...and I needed a laugh! Just got an email from my next oldest sister that my next oldest brother just had a heart attack around noon shovelling snow...is in hospital now getting a stint...still in surgery! As I said earlier. get alot of snow here... more than you could ever imagine...would like to go see him but highway has just been sealed off due to blowing snow and there was just a 5 car pileup...people stuck out there. How do ya like them potatoes? Wish I had that drone right now Bedford so i could scope things out .
  17. Low level blizzard out there right now...once it blows itself out in a couple of days I'm going to have to shovel off the roofs before they collapse...was just out there and the windchill feels about -20...still not too bad but could be pretty cold tonight.

  19. WOW...good for you...googled it and it looks like something from outer space...drones open up a whole new perspective of the world don't they...fascinating. Good job Bedford...keeps those clips coming...can it actually navigate and film in a storm?
  20. Just woke up and had an awful nights sleep thinking about your risque lifestyle Bob8...closing the roads and schools up here due to the heavy snowfall/wind....could get snowed in but lots of food...we're ready.
