Makali Aizue will remain the Dons for the 2017 season. The experienced prop moved to the Keepmoat Stadium for the 2016 campaign, and Dons coach Gary Thornton hailed his impact.

He said: “Makali was a huge influence on our young squad both on and off the field last season. His experience was of huge benefit to our young front rowers the likes of Connor and Zac.

“He had some injury problems last season which limited his game time somewhat, but that has now been resolved through surgery and he is busting a gut to get fit and back out there.

“I'm delighted he has decided to return for another year with us, and will give us that much needed steel and toughness in the middle unit. He's added to an already formidable pack.”

The RFL have awarded Aizue a 12-month testimonial in recognition of his impact on the game.

He has also played for Hull Kingston Rovers, Halifax and Dewsbury Rams.

Dons CEO Carl Hall added: “To have come over from Papau New Guinea would of been a big culture shock for Makali, but to go on and play more than 300 games in the position he plays and the way he plays is a credit to him.

“I hope everyone supports his testimonial he's a great character who is loved by all the supporters of all the clubs he has played for, he deserves everything he gets."
