Betfred League One

Derwent Park

The Dons were comfortably beaten as they went down 34-6 against Workington Town in Betfred League One.

Richard Horne made just two changes to his side, with Aaron Jones-Bishop and Cameron Scott coming into the starting XIII in place of Richard Owen and Connor Bower.

Workington scored the opening try of the game after just six minutes, as a cross-field kick from Jamie Doran found winger Elliott Miller who managed to evade the Dons defence as he went over the line.

Leon Pryce's side were temporarily down to 12 men in the early exchanges, as prop forward Tom Curwen was shown a yellow card for a shoulder charge on Jordie Hedges.

The home side had their second try midway through the first half and Miller was again the man to profit, as good work from full-back Sam Forrester saw the ball shifted to the right for the winger to go over. Carl Forber converted for 10-0.

Workington continued to dominate the opening 40 minutes and scored again just before the interval, former New Zealand international FuiFui MoiMoi had too much strength for the Dons defence and powered his way over.

The Cumbrian side had time for a fourth try before half-time, as centre Perry Singleton squeezed his way over on the right after more good work from Forrester.

The Dons had a to find a response and managed to go over for the first try of the second-half, as Jack Sanderson sent Cameron Scott through a gap to score.

Richard Horne's men continued to come forward, with a couple of forward passes preventing them from closing the gap further as the game approached the hour-mark.

Workington all but sealed the game with 13 minutes remaining, as half-back Doran weaved his way beyond several Dons defenders to score. Forber converted for 28-6.

Workington had enough time to add more gloss to the score-line, as MoiMoi once again proved to be too strong to handle as he crashed over underneath the sticks for his second.
