There will be an exciting opportunity for Rugby League junior players this June as Wigan Warriors Development Days relaunch – giving the stars of the future the chance to be noticed by Club coaches.

The Warriors Academy and Community Foundation are able to open the doors at Robin Park Arena in a few weeks’ time to invite junior players to take part in open access training sessions as part of the youth development programme at the Club.

It is not only a chance to receive first class training by Warriors coaches, but also an opportunity for the coaches to use the days to highlight potential talent for the upcoming Scholarship programme later in the year – a programme which has seen current first team players progress through to make it to where they are today.

Academy head coach and Scholarship manager, Shane Eccles, said: “It is great that we are now in a position where we can run the Development Days again. It is great for us to be able to welcome aspiring young players into Robin Park Arena and experience what it is like to be part of our junior programmes.

“The aim of these programme is for young players to experience what it is like to be part of the academy programme but also for us to observe and identify talent that can progress and develop into our programmes.

“As part of the Development Days we will have some physical tests and skill-based assessments where we can monitor progress of players over the various development days through the year.

“As coaching staff, we cannot wait to see the young players back down and being involved in our programmes. We want to help build on the skills the players are taught at their community clubs and give them an insight into what our Scholarship and Academy programme is like.”

Head of youth, Darrell Goulding, added: “It is great that everyone is back enjoying playing Rugby League at their community clubs and schools after the long break from sport due to the pandemic.

“Wigan Warriors are excited to welcome players back into Robin Park Arena and look forward to helping further develop the players of the future.”
