Super League: Albert Goldthorpe team of the season

League Express newspaper has revealed its team of the season based purely on points scored in the Albert Goldthorpe Medal table.

Designed to reward Super League’s top player – just like the Man of Steel – the annual award in a similar way to the Dally M Medal in Australia, with reporters distributing points to three players per match. The game’s best player gets three points, the second best two and the third best one.

Interestingly, only four players from Super League’s official Dream Team (which is picked by journalists) – Michael Shenton, Kallum Watkins, Kevin Brown and Daryl Clark – made the Goldthorpe lineup.

Morgan Escare, who was controversially left out of the Dream Team despite a superb season that featured 27 tries, made the cut, though, as did Josh Charnley, who was incredibly underrated this season despite scoring 19 tries in 16 games.

Do you think this represents Super League’s best team more accurately than the Dream Team? Let us know!
