#3130836 The Summer Bash: Dewsbury v Batley

Posted by Netherton Ram on 28 May 2015 - 03:12 PM

My opinion on the weekend.

Firstly, the game.

A typical Dewsbury and Batley derby really. Not much in it and not a great viewing spectacle. Batley should have won the game, but just didn't have any penetration on our line. A couple of skillful moments won us the game. The first being Pryce's offload for the first try and then Grant's great finish. Oh and Seymour's deliberate goal miss...

Thacks and Seymour need to stop throwing stupid passes. Yes, throw passes that can be made, but not ones such as Seymour's on Sunday. Just can't understand throwing a pass which is always going to be forward.

Hopefully this week's rest will have done us wonders. As we did look very tired. Will be a tough game on Sunday, as we never play as well as we should against a team lower in the table.

Now onto the Bash concept.

Good idea and I'm glad I attended it. I'm just not sure if it will he held again as I don't think the attendances can sustain it. Next year, even keeping the same teams in the league, the attendance would be lower I feel. If Leigh or Bradford go up the attendance would be terrible.

Holding it every 2 years may be better to stop the event becoming stale.

Now Blackpool. It's not for me and it never will be. What a hole. That was the worst part of the weekend by far for me. Spent most of my time in St. Anne's. Actually pubs there that serve good beer and aren't noisy and packed! A touch of class, which is me all over...

I agree that we have a big squad and that it will take a lot of keeping players happy. Saying that, a lot of the recent signings have just about begged to come to the club. They will know that the competition for places is massive, but they knew that before signing on.

Regarding money and player terms, not all players are on season long money deals, some are on match terms, for now.

Players begging to come to the club? That can't have happened since the Neil Kelly 2000 season

#3049290 Batley v Dewsbury - match discussion

He was winding people up in the tackle, led with the forearm once when taking the ball in, shouted get off me like an idiot in the tackle more than once, it led to the scuffles between the players. So he got what he wanted. It all happened on the side by the new seated stand. Wind up merchant. Plays the crowd more than concentrating on the game.

Was a pretty close game. We could have taken the 2 points at the end for a draw, but our boys wanted the win.

A shame that our halves didn't get much game time. Thackeray and Wildie weren't on the pitch 2 minutes. Hopefully they will feature more in the next friendlies, as they need game time together.

Grady was the stand out player for us in my opinion. He is a very good player and looks well ahead of the other players fitness wise.

Farrell is a great player, but tried too hard today and was greedy at times. He isn't a hooker though!

Hate to mention him, but Reitte, he really is a disgrace at times.

The club steer away from the hoops every so often, as most fans already own a few of the traditional hopped design. Having a hooped shirt every year would not create great sales.

I know I can hear people saying "but, Wigan have a similar shirt every season", but they have a big fan base that buy shirts no matter what the design every season. Our club needs to change it to try and sell shirts. I know I don't usually buy a new hooped design as I already have some. I will be buying this new one though.

The pre-order sales of the new shirt have already been fantastic, so the majority of people must like it.

Hoops will return in the next couple of seasons I'm sure as last seasons wasn't hooped either.

I like the design a lot.

There is a new deal in place and there will be another statement this week on which company it is with.

All I will say is that there is more to a kit deal than always choosing the local option. Yes, it is always best to try and strike a deal with a local company, and it is more convenient, but there is a lot more to consider and the club has to get the best deal they can.

There are many great kit manufacturers all over the world, and in these days of the world coming closer together, through better telecommunications and shipping methods, it doesn't matter where a company is based if they can provide a great service.
