  1. Of course it is. Its just a bit of fun in difficult times. Don't take things too seriously
  2. OK now no laughing or scorn please but I was watching the women's six nations today and for those that missed it England beat Wales by 66 points to 7. It was a very entertaining game and despite being RL through and through I am open to RU when played well, as it was in this game. All that said though I am putting forward the England fly half Katy Dalie-McClean to be signed by Oldham for 2021. She has great pace and vision and what a try she scored under the sticks from about 40 yards out straight through the middle. She would go great in our team and some eye candy for the boys in the cr
  3. Thanks for that RL. Not just the Dave Parker bit but all of the Platts stuff as well. I spent many happy years at Platts and know lots of the people mentioned. I was even in the training room that is pictured. I remember very well that interview I had with Dave Parker and I think a guy called Jack Garside. It was a grueller but I got through. Thanks for the happy memories.
  4. What has happened to this guy there has been no mention of him on the club website and, more unusually, nothing on the forum. I'm hoping he got injured in training or something and is now recovering but still not mentioned on injured list so I'm confused.
  5. Happy new year everyone. What was the final score please?
  6. Why is Joy being left out? Is he injured or is there something sinister going on?
  7. Brilliant. I'm dead chuffed to hear that. Really glad he's OK
  8. Does anyone know what happened to Colin. Is he fit and well now or is his disappearance linked to illness. Colin was a first order grafter and I would hate to think he is suffering in some way. I sincerely hope it was just a misunderstanding of some sort
  9. Sadly I have learned that Dave actually died on the 9th of November and his funeral is tomorrow (Monday) at 12.15 in Hertfordshire and it is just too short notice to be able to go. Had it been later in the week the distance would have been no problem and I would definitely have gone. As for the story I suppose it is quite nice really but that's Rugby League for you one big family full of really hard men but most of whom have hearts of gold.
  10. I am really and genuinely sad to hear of Dave's passing. Apart from his undisputed ability as a player he was a true gentleman. He was a good friend of mine during his day at Platts where I worked as an apprentice. We talked a lot of rugby together and I remember seeing him on the Monday morning following the HKR semi final. The injury he got was horrendous and his face looked like a lump of liver. Poole should have been banned for a long time for that offence. I forget what Dave's position was at Platts but somehow feel that he was the senior personnel manager, or something along those
  11. Told you they would all come out now. I also remember Shawside and Werneth and I think Kevin Taylor played for Werneth before turning pro with Oldham
  12. Very good idea. I'm sure there are lots of old clubs we don't think about any longer. I remember Platt Bros had a team for a while. I even played a few games for them. And I think Ferrantis also had a team. I know in the 60s Saddleworth Rangers were the team to beat. I suspect that lots of people will now come up with long forgotten clubs and long forgotten stories. I hope so it will bring back a lot of memories.
  13. Too many to put them all down on here but the funniest for me was watching Oldham play Wigan from the Hutchins stand upstairs on a very foggy day with a good friend. We couldn't see the other end of the pitch and followed the game by listening to the groans and cheers from the crowd up there and also watching the Wigan fullback, Colin Tyrer I think it was, pacing side to side across the halfway line. Oldham were losing by one point at the time when drop goals counted two. Suddenly out of the mist appears Frank Foster, realising he didn't have the pace to go round Tyrer he attempted a drop goa
