  1. I know, you're right, but you have to start with what we've got. Then work back to an acceptable level. Oldham only had 43 games because they were successful in all competitions. Given that there are no longer county cups and most second and third tier teams won't progress too far in the CC that would bring us down to 30 or so games. So, how do we divide the current 23 teams into a competition of 30 games. One division, not all teams play each other home and away and champions decided by play offs. I know it's not perfect as I don't know how they previously decided who played who. Or one division split into two conferences. Again how? Geography, that won't work because one conference may have ten better teams anly four get to the play offs. Or as is likely keep it as it is and the lower division has looped games and dies a slow death.
  2. Now I don't mind constructive argument either for or against. But nonsense replies don't move the problem on to a resolution!
  3. In 1989-90 season, div 2 had 21 teams, but only played 28 league games.so we didn't play every team home and away. Plus of course challenge cup games, Oldham were beaten semi finalist. County cup games, Oldham beaten finalists plus premier play offs, Oldham were winners. So in total Oldham played, according to my trusty copy of Turner, 43 games. This season we've had 21 games excluding friendlies. Half the games of 89-90 and we were in the play offs. let's just combine the two lower divisions. edit. As an aside five of the teams in 1989-90 no longer exist. Runcorn Highfield, Nottingham city, Chorley borough,Carlisle and Bramley.
  4. I think, maybe our loss on Sunday may have put paid to some signings. However, we need to know what the format for next year is sooner than later in order to make more decent signings.
  5. Go to the Oldham FB and website. The sequence before during and after has now been published. Decide for yourself.
  6. Tbh, the promotion playoffs, as they currently stand, are a nonsense given that every team plays each other home and away. Hunslet are second and should go straight up. Also, as I've said previously, what a nonsense if we went up after Doncaster beating us twice in the league
  7. The two players sent off near the end of the game were cited for headbutting!! The review panel said that footage showed no headbutting motions occured and therefore no action needed'. What were the officials looking at?
  8. Maybe, but not as often as us as we have been going a lot longer. Can't remember ever having three tries disallowed though. Just shows the need for a video ref with such important games.
  9. I think they should. I know there'll be 23-4 teams but if you remember back to 89-90, the year we won against hull kr at old Trafford, we didn't play everyone home and away. The idea of the third tier is to give a pathway for expansion. Well that's worked out well hasn't it.? Premiership play offs were introduced many many years ago to try and solve this problem. Well we still have play offs so where's the problem?
  10. It's a strange paradox isn't it it? Another advantage, it could be argued, is this league will have fewer games than the championship, and so with a much stronger side than now, we should be able to do better in the challenge cup. Fewer league games equals more recovery time. On the topic of Stuart littler, I started to have doubts following the lock lane debacle. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. But tbh he had to go.
  11. I think last week's sin binning of pat ah van and yesterday's three disallowed tries shows the need for a video ref. Did ah van ground the ball before his foot touched the line? Was there an obstruction, from the TV it looked like there wasn't and did ,can't remember if it was McNally or Paga, ground the ball or was he held up? I've seen all the given in the past.
  12. What Fordy said,in the post match interview, was that it's usual to have a 20% turnover of players in a season. We have 75% and that we only had one player on a two year contract when he took over. We're making some top quality signings, and has already been posted some players have already signed for other teams, Widnes and hornets to name but two. Also Fordy has already stated that we'll have a championship quality squad for next year, no matter the division we're in.
  13. Yeds at home, will have something to prove. There is no way they can play as poor as last week. Yeds by three tries and a drop
  14. Not only that, if we were to remain in this division, then games would be made up by doing well in the challenge cup. Quarters maybe.
  15. What!!!!!!???? That's not the attitude I would expect from anyone at the club. The players ,if they've anything about them will go for the win. Many may not be here next year but they've still got a lot to prove to themselves and to their future employers. I don't know what happened in their heads last weekend, but I'm certain they'll be ready to get back on track and prove the doubters wrong.
  16. Wasn't he involved in that great try by Kieran gill against Bradford at stalyvegas?
  17. Soz. you're right. To all those who are saying it's over, it can't be turned around and we're not going to go bp to watch that rubbish, I say this....Samoa. 60-6 loss v England. It was men against boys, England were a shoe in for the final!!!
  18. With reference to your points. No it's not. On current form. But form can change. Maybe, maybe not. It was streamed online. So undecideds stayed at home. Me, I was working so hid myself away and watched it online.
