Leicester Storm RL           16           vs            38           Sheffield Hallam Eagles

(Dean) Thomas takes the positives against the Eagles:

This game was set to be a tough and physical game for both teams, who were equally punished for mistakes early on. The young, yet talented Leicester Storm team were looking to regain some team spirit following last weekends defeat at the Harvey Hadden Stadium. Paul Andrews looking to prove himself in particular on his debut for the club. Both teams posed threats, strong players and skills, but it was Sheffield who made it over the line first to put the visitors up 4-0 when the score was unconverted. Good kicking from Jack Boothby put the visitors under pressure at every restart, making Captain Greg Hurst's side more confident and eager for the win. An unfortunate head injury saw the end of the game for Kane Feek who had to leave the field with a split lip after clashing with an ex-team mate. Excellent running from Mahmood Saad saw the home side exploit an overlap on the left wing as Greg Hurst set Jack Boothby up in the corner, what was to be his second try in 2 games for the Storm side. A hard kick was successfully converted by the skillful boot of winger Mark Etherington. Three more tries were put past the disciplined Storm defence, seeing the home side heading into the second half trailing by 18-6. Blistering runs opened up the second half of this contest, coming from forwards Mahmood Saad and Patrick Thomson, each gaining precious yards when they had the ball in hand, ended in Jack Boothby going over for his second try of the game, rewarding the home side for their sensible calls, precision passes from Simon Anniss and quick play from Captain Hurst. This kick proved hard for Etherington, who missed the posts by inches. Storms third try wasn't far behind. With well worked moves and outstanding team play, the team found themselves camped on the visitors line, when excellent footwork from a young Blake Turner, stunned the Eagles' defensive line and dived over for his first score in the senior set-up. Etherington capitalised on another precious 2 points for the home side, taking the score to 22-16. Unfortunately for the home side, there was one more try to be had from the visitors which took the score to 26-16. Heading towards the line after a perfectly timed interception was Blake Turner, who was unfortunately stopped due to an unsportsmanlike shoulder barge from a Sheffield forward. The game ended at 38-16 to the visitors, Man of the match was awarded to Mahmood Saad, whose constant strength and power gained yards for his side.
