THE Kangaroos, Kiwis and England will kick off their quest for global rugby league supremacy on October 26. Check out our mug's guide to the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

WHAT IS IT?
France lobbied for and hosted the first World Cup in 1954 and the inaugural edition featured only three other teams – Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand and the host nation.  The Brits would have taken great delight in beating the French 16-12 in the final.

Britain (1960, ’72) has won the title twice since the first staging of the event, Australia has conquered on nine occasions (1957, ‘68, ‘70; ‘75; ‘77; ‘88; ‘92; ‘95; 2000) and Kangaroo fans are just starting to forgive Billy Slater for an errant pass that helped New Zealand win it for the first time in 2008.
