Richard Horne believes the Dons’ win at Whitehaven was a sign of their intent as they moved four points clear of the Cumbrian side.

A late try from Brad England secured the two points for Horne’s side, which made it six victories in a row in Betfred League One.

He said: “It was a very scrappy game and we made hard work of it, Whitehaven played really direct and we made too many errors.

“We spoke about getting the job done coming up here, it was a tough, physical game but the result was always going to be the most important thing.

“Travelling up here is always hard so we chose to stay over, and the way we started the game shows we made the right call on that.”

The Dons now have a two-week break between games, and Horne says the rest will come at a good time.

He added: “The result gives us some breathing space but we have tough games coming up against other teams in and around the play-off places.

“We’re looking forward to the business end of the campaign, our performances need to improve but I can’t fault their effort and commitment for each other.”
