Adrian Lam is looking for a response from his players as they aim to bounce back from last weekend’s cup defeat on Friday night.

Wigan take on fellow Coral Challenge Cup Semi Final losers Warrington Wolves in Round 15 of the Betfred Super League on neutral ground at Emeral Headingley Stadium, K.O. 7:45pm.

Discussing the game in light of last week’s performance, the Papua New Guinean said: “We’ve got another quick turnaround, but after last week’s result, training isn’t the issue.

“I want to see a response from the players this week.”

Steve Price’s side have had a similarly good run to Wigan in the Betfred Super League since the return from lockdown. The two clubs currently sit in the top four places with the same win percentage at 69.23%.

On facing Warrington: “It’s a massive game for both clubs. Warrington will want to respond as well. We will rally together and make sure that we play well.”

The week has thrown another challenge into the mix, with two Warriors players testing positive for COVID-19 on Monday (learn more HERE) and a further one player testing positive, announced Wednesday morning by Lam.

On tackling the issue this week he said: “Everyone was tested again on Monday and all came back negative apart from four which were inconclusive.

“They were retested and now it has cleared up that one of those four was positive.

“That one player didn’t take part at the weekend. The game will be going ahead this week.”

With the three positive players now isolating, the rest of the squad are clear to continue with Super League action on Friday.

Highlighting the success of the process thus far: “It’s business as usual, we have experienced disruption from other clubs but we haven’t experienced it ourselves until now.

“We have to make to make sure we are doing everything we possibly can, outside of what we are already doing, to deal with it.”

While the vital and most pressing issue is stopping the spread of the virus, the Head Coach explained that the headache of squad selection is next on the agenda.

“We are as good as anywhere in the protocols we have in place and we are dealing with it very professionally. The issue will come with our selections and naming the team.”

“Everyone is aware of the situation, we just have to power on just like other clubs have done.”
