Campaign so far

The Cherry and Whites head into the fixture with two wins from their previous six in the competition. As it stands, Wigan sit fourth, having won 13 of their 23 games so far this season.

The hosts have played four games less than the Warriors, and have won eight. Wigan took the two points in their last league meeting when the two sides met at the DW Stadium on 29th April.

Team news

Despite pulling out in the warm-up on Sunday ahead of the Warrington fixture, Oliver Gildart is named in the squad. Should he feature he could make his 150th career appearance (140 for Wigan). John Bateman could make his 150th appearance for Wigan on Saturday.

Injury news

Jai Field continues to recover from a minor groin strain and misses out this week. Tommy Leuluai will miss the rest of the season, as confirmed on Tuesday following a hamstring injury sustained against Leigh in Round 17.

Both Thomas Leuluai and Bevan French continue to recover from season-ending hamstring injuries.

Coach quotes

Speaking to the media ahead of the fixture, Lam gave his thoughts on Saturday’s fixture.

“There’s still work to do to clinch fourth spot. We’ve got it in our own hands. It’s important we turn up this week and get the win – which will locks us in and guarantees us fourth place.

“It’s important you find your fluency. We’re working really hard on that. It’s difficult when you’ve not had confidence over the past two months. If we have our defence nailed on we always have a chance to win games. The attack will come.

“We need that cohesion to be gelled together. We pass the ball and have more attacking strikes than anyone in the competition, we just need that execution and hopefully the timing falls in line with the end of the season.”

On the opposition this week, the boss said: “They’re a team of great Individuals. They’ve been no different with injures. To travel up there and play there is a real tough ask for us but it’s what we need leading into these big games.

“They’ve got a strong squad that are some of the best in the competition. I’ve got to make sure I put all the energy in my team. I’m looking forward to travelling up there and having a strong performance.

“You’ve got to address and look after their strengths as well but it’s about us. Let’s take another step forward to where we want to go.” Click HERE to read Lam’s preview in full.
