#3016252 They just don't get it.......

Posted by steef on 19 October 2014 - 09:33 AM

i think that, due to the 6 tackle rule wich effectively says that both teams should spend roughly 50% of the game attacking and 50% defending (before errors/penalties) means that players have to be well rounded and capable of doing everything reasonably well. very effective attackers cannot get away with being bad defenders and vice versa. Also the fact that teams cannot monopolise posession means they need to have the skills to score when they do have the ball, the lack of complex restarts means the players only have to train on deffence and attack rather than say scrums and lineouts, this enables players like james graham to expand his skill set to be a ball player whereas a union prop will spend much time practicing the restarts that little time will be available for attack.

the sheer relentlessnes of top level RL also makes our players fit enough to handle the demands of most other similar sports.

all imho.

#3008799 Sports personality of the year

a presenter on talksport reffered to burgess as "possibly the best athlete england has ever produced" today which took me by surprise.

#3006590 05/10/14 - Oldham v Hunslet Hawks KO 4.05pm (TV)

Posted by steef on 02 October 2014 - 10:54 PM

Is Hunslets ground any more suitable for the second division? I would have though that Oldham would play bigger games at Boundary Park (I could see the Roughyeds drawing some big gates next year)

should oldham win, where they will play is still unknown. it cant be whitebank as it sadly isn't fit for our current division let alone the one above. Nor sure what our relationship with the football club is currently but woukd be great if an affordable deal could be worked out with them regardless of the result in the final. Good luck to the boys really hope we can finally win one!

i feel that having a part time coach based in aus will do us no favours this year. Aus and NZ have got train on squads up and running and will have full squads anounced by next week. there is not much time for the squad to come together with our season going on a week extra plus travelling/ jet lag/acclimatisation etc. i have a feeling a lack of preperation will be our undoing rather than any glaring lack of quality in the team.

#3004019 Friday deadline!

whitebank is just dire. in its current state it just isn't pleasurable to watch games there so the chances of attracting and keeping new fans are non existant. boundary park is the obvious solution to this if the finances stack up. failing that practically anywhere else would be better. good luck to the team in the final.

#2995919 English Rugby union set to raise salary cap while league stands still

Posted by steef on 15 September 2014 - 01:39 PM

our cap really needs to be increased and a marquee allowance added to it. if certain clubs cant afford it then they dont have to pay it. but our players deserve more and need to be kept in RL.

#2983238 Be afraid, VERY afraid

Posted by steef on 27 August 2014 - 09:59 AM

faith has to be considered irrational, the evidence against its claims is overwhelming and evidence for them is practically non existent. the problem lies with the fact that these "holy" books encourage people to actively seek the end of the world. granted the majority of religous people are moderate but their reaction to any form of criticism of their faiths is clearly hindering the debate in how best to tackle extremists, like a mafia wife almost. imho religion has no place in a civilised world and has held the human race back for long enough. As for the tv channels, would prefer them to be banned but again the cries of persecution will stop it ever happening and baseless bile will continue to be broadcast into people homes.

does seem hard to believe some of these claims. this thread will be epic.

#2900963 Ryan Hall

Ryan hall would do brilliantly in the NRL, he is the complete winger in my book and would walk into any rugby league side anywhere. Will likely stay at Leeds.

#2862655 Koukash demands fans backing

Posted by steef on 11 January 2014 - 04:21 PM

Salford should go all out to try and make the cc final. A wembley appearance seems to often provide a good springboard for future growth and success. Injuries permitting with their squad the top eight should take care of its self.

#2835709 16/11/13 - World Cup QF3: England v France (Wigan, KO 8pm)

Posted by steef on 15 November 2013 - 11:35 PM

Sinfield will quit internationals after the wc i would imagine opening up a space for widdop in the first thirteen, unless anyone else steps up to the mark in the meantime. As to mcnamara and his selections i would have gone with widdop and sinfield as my halves but think chase and sinfield have got steadily better as the tournament has progressed and don't really have a problem with their continued selection. To be honest after the fiji game i have found some of the criticism of the halves a bit absurd as they set up pretty much all the scores.

Northen exposure was the best. Didn't even try to be subtle.

Seriously this will have no baring on next weeks performance. Will provide a huge kick up the backside wich will do no harm. Friendlies are never a good barometer. Still disapointing however.
