Keighley Cougars and Bradford Bulls have today issued the following joint statement ahead of this Sunday’s game at Cougar Park.

Bradford Bulls visit Cougar Park on 29th January for the 13th Joe Phillips Memorial Trophy meeting between the sides, with the Cougars the current holders following a 28-12 victory in 2012.

The 2pm kick off on Sunday marks the Bulls’s second game since reforming with the visit to Keighley being the first match in charge for the new Bradford Bulls Head Coach Geoff Toovey.

The Bulls delivered a very good performance in their first run out last week in Huddersfield and, similarly, the Cougars performed well at top four Championship side Batley Bulldogs.

With the performance at Batley and two impressive wins under their belt it is anticipated that this will be an exciting and close game.  Certainly the Joe Phillips Memorial Trophy will be hotly contested with both teams looking to field their strongest line ups.

Both clubs have jointly agreed ground admission prices at £10 for Adults, £5 for Concessions and £1 for Juniors.

Keighley Cougars Chairman Gary Fawcett said: “We are excited to have the Bulls down at Cougar Park on Sunday.  Given the difficulties the club has been through it’s great to see the club pulling through and delivering action on the pitch.

“We would like to offer our congratulations to Andrew Chalmers and Graham Lowe the co-owners, and we welcome Jas Athwal the new club Chairman, and his team for sorting things out so quickly after the problematic administration process.  It’s never good to see a club struggling and we wish the Bulls the very best for the coming season.

I think our Head Coach has really got our squad going and, I think, this game is too close to call.  I am sure Geoff Toovey and the new coaching team will have other ideas!”

Bradford Bulls Co-owner Andrew Chalmers added: “The new look Bulls team are excited as we accelerate the pace of our preparations for the beginning of the season. Make no mistake this game is an important step in that process and our first team is preparing accordingly. Whilst Geoff Toovey will only arrive on Thursday morning he will hit the ground all guns blazing. Let’s bring it on!”
