Overseas player allowance officially increased
MZH replied to Harry Stottle's topic in The General Rugby League Forum
It's hard to see how this is going to improve the competition. Unless you also increase the salary cap its unlikely that the extra quota players are going to be of any real quality. It just looks like another way to block the pathway of youth players. I saw Richie Myler being interviewed a while ago about potential increases of the quota. His suggestion was to increase the quota but leave the maximum you can have in a matchday squad at 7. This seems like a reasonable compromise to me. -
I'm not at all concerned by that. Cartwright won't put up with anyone not pulling their weight.

We don't really need a big minute prop though. A couple of blockbusting stints off the bench is exactly what we are looking for. Hopefully we can persuade Sam Eseh to sign for next year (or perhaps more accurately persuade Wigan to let us sign him for next year). That would give us Ese'ese, Lisone, Knight, Hill and Eseh as our main options in the middle. All bases are covered there. You've got a couple of real blockbusting, tackle breaking props in Herman and Lisone, and 3 good all rounders to back them up.

Only rumour at the minute, but it sounds a lot like Sam Lisone is on his way to Hull FC.

Lions 3-0. I probably won't watch any of this. I usually take a passing interest in the Lions, but Australia are so poor these days I see this tour being a bit of a damp squib. It's a dying sport over there. Cricket, 3-2 England. The way both teams play I don't really see any draws unless the weather takes away a good chunk of the game. They've got an elite bowling lineup and a few issues with the bat. We've got an elite batting lineup and a few issues with the ball. So it should be fun. Heart over head I'll go England, just. Rugby League, 2-1 Australia. I think we will be really competitive and I'm confident we win at least one. But in my lifetime a series win against Australia has always been a bridge too far, so I'm tempering my expectations a bit so we don't get disappointed.

The biggest frustration for me in recent weeks (and I'm sure for Cartwright too) has been the unforced error count. We knew when Asiata went down that our attack would be adversely affected, and you can see we have lost that attacking shape and speed with him not being there. But we are not giving ourselves a chance with the amount of ball we are putting down. We have got to get back to completing sets and getting good kicks in and slowly building pressure. I'm really happy with what we are doing defensively, and the effort everyone is giving can't be faulted. It's night and day from previous seasons. We know we are a work in progress and that it's going to take at least another 2 recruitment cycles for us to really be a force. But we need to stop shooting ourselves in the foot. A playoff place is very much attainable this year and that would be a big boost to everyone after the garbage served up over the last 3 or 4 seasons.
