Eric Deighton
In 2002 a few people got together to reform the knights from the remnants of the Wasps. I was one of the group of volunteers who put in hours of work to relaunch the club, run matchday, raise funds and all the other things necessary to make the Club viable. We didn't know much about running a club and had to learn fast but by pulling together and with a determination that Rugby League would carry on in York we got things back on track. Things were going well when I left in 2004 to resume my career then things started going badly with illness in the family. I moved away to Berwick-upon-Tweed in 2007 and live here still. There is no Rugby League up here, oh how I miss it! Believe me its like living in a wilderness living in a place with no Rugby League. To my Shame I'm afraid that I lost touch with the Knights and with my birth City. On a whim and for nostalgia I searched for Knights news and was completely bowled over at the things I saw. I guess my question "What Happened" needs volumes of responses and much research. I didn't think I'd ever see the return of the swinging axe above the club again and it makes me so sorry. Can the club be saved? Who will save it? Is there a band of brothers and sisters out there who will again rise to the challenge of saving Professional Rugby League in York?
