  1. I guess Australia has been lucky in having a relatively competitive opponent (NZ) close by to play regular internationals with and also a source of players for their competition. This also led to the rise of the PI countries mainly via heritage players to becoming competitive - giving 6 or so relatively competitive countries that can play in localised tournaments like this. Imagine if England had of had something similar with France (and expanding into Wales, Ireland, Scotland, etc) - but it seems those things never were persisted with and the focus has appeared to be on matches against southern hemisphere countries
  2. 2 clubs that have been around for 20 years is a good sign
  3. is that part of the reason why England haven't been particular good at cricket for an extended period?
  4. Apparently there is a preamble to laws of cricket describing the "spirt of cricket" Respect your captain, team-mates, opponents and the authority of the umpires. Play hard and play fair. Accept the umpire’s decision. Create a positive atmosphere by your own conduct, and encourage others to do likewise. Show self-discipline, even when things go against you. Congratulate the opposition on their successes, and enjoy those of your own team. https://www.lords.org/mcc/the-laws-of-cricket/preamble-to-the-laws-spirit-of-cricket
  5. I am certain that if the throw had missed and been misfielded there is no way that Johnny and Ben would have taken some runs because it wouldn't be in the spirit of the game
  6. I reckon the crowds at Catalans in the first few years were artificially high due to UK fans making the trip over. I would expect fewer to go over as the years progress - they will need to make up these numbers with locals
