  1. Only just spotted they were repeating 'Peaky Blinders'. Very much enjoyed it when it was first on, but am a little worried that the second series might not live up to the first.
  2. If you've ever Googled the portmanteau term 'Wal-Martians', there are a lot of Americans you'd rather not sit next to. Thankfully, they tend not to be the international traveller type.
  3. Here's a couple of brilliant photos of Tesla in his laboratory: http://www.retronaut.com/2012/08/nikola-tesla-in-his-laboratory-1899/?utm_content=buffer5966f&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
  4. By the way, 'Going to Sea in a Sieve' is now available as a Kindle download for £1.49! I'm aware that Danny Baker's not to everybody's taste, but this is a funny book, and one from a man who was at Ground Zero of the Punk explosion in the UK. And at that price, it isn't a massive financial risk.
  5. I am mostly pro-BBC, despite them clogging the schedules with the tripe of Eastenders and a slew of creepily arch antiques experts and glorified estate agents, but The Symphony of Medinah indicates that some folk just need shooting. Right in the nuts.
  6. Latest news: originally going with ITV, now the series will be an 8-parter on the BBC under the title 'Cradle to Grave'. Rumour has it that Peter Kay is a possible casting for Danny's dad.
  7. It is definitely being adapted for TV, from what I've read - some award-winning screenwriting talent behind it too.
  8. Bit of Cold Chisel on the end credits, I thinks. One for the Aussie TRLers.
  9. Apart from water, the only other way I have whisky is in a Whisky Mac - equal measures of whisky and ginger wine - a great cockle-warmer on a freezing cold day. It works with rum instead of whisky too.
  10. Looking forward to it. The first one was an amazing mixture of anecdotes and the famous names his life intersected.
  11. Ginger beer or ginger ale are sometimes mixed with whisky. What do you mean by 'fresh ginger'? Are you going to grate up ginger root and infuse it? You can mix whisky with cloudy apple juice and a wedge of lime. I prefer to take my whisky with just a splash of water. Brings out the flavour and cuts any roughness.
  12. For those people who received the U2 album without wanting it, Apple have released a "U2 album removal tool".
  13. Never could stand Mr B.Vox, Mr T.Edge and the two Mr Otherblokes, personally. I don't own any iGear, so I haven't had their dreary, self-important wibblings inflicted on me this time.
  14. She's better looking than Charlie Daniels, that's for sure...
  15. Strewth! Just looking at some prices on The Whisky Exchange, and some stuff I remember enjoying for a very reasonable price a few decades ago has become very collectable indeed, due to the distilleries having been closed down. St Magdalene (lowland) is available at £750 and Brora (highland) doesn't come in much under £500.
  16. The other reason I'm a bit chary of Jura is that their whiskies seem to be on permanent discount at my local supermarket.
  17. Never tried it, but some people online suspect Laphroaig's input. No-one's 100% sure, though.
  18. I don't go there very often, as there are alternatives that are much closer, but will check next time I'm there. It's a pretty big branch, and although there were spaces on the shelves, none of the shelf tickets showed the 'own label' malts. This approach to affordable whisky seems to be getting rarer in general, though. Tesco still do 'own label', as far as I know, but Waitrose's version is too pricey - you're only a few quid off a decent 'name' malt.
  19. Following the lead of many other supermarkets, Asda seem to have discontinued their 'own label' single malts. At least, none of them were on the shelves last time I went there. I have consoled myself with a Madeira cask Penderyn, which is as good as ever.
