  1. Also on eBay, a second-hand record shop in London. I'll look down the back of my sofa and see if I can afford it.
  2. What's that? You feel that your life is insufficiently filled with half-baked theories? That's terrible! Try SongMeanings.com
  3. Yet another wrinkle in the longest-running hoax/not hoax story in entertainment: Cult comedy star Andy Kaufman faked his own death in 1984 and is still alive, his brother has claimed.
  4. Looking through my old browser bookmarks, I found this old favourite - Abandoned Tube Stations.
  5. I didn't use the chestnuts in the end - just put some butter, thyme and a clove of garlic inside each bird and put a layer of Iberico ham over the breasts. Very tasty, and a good amount of meat for the money.
  6. One of the very last flights of the insane GeeBee racing aeroplane.
  7. I've bought a couple of partridges (Lidl again) for tonight. Stuff 'em with chestnuts, lard 'em with bacon, then roast.
  8. If you can get past the raw egg texture, it's damn tasty. Although it should be chopped, rather than minced.
  9. Frank Zappa and band perform 'Inca Roads' with part of it animated by the demented plasticene creations of Bruce Bickford.
  10. Reading Donald (Steely Dan) Fagen's book, 'Eminent Hipsters', it turns out that one of their drummers when DF and Walter Becker started out gigging at college was Chevy Chase!
  11. I casseroled the reindeer and it was very nice indeed. Unlike the "diced" game you get in many shops, these were good-sized chunks (about an inch cubed), not random offcuts.
  12. The company I work for recently relocated, and there's a Lidl right next door. Always worth a look to see what they've got. The first time I went inside a one of their shops, I found trumpets, edible underwear and loudspeaker cable. I didn't buy any of them, but you never know what you'll find. Their leaflet said they'd have goose, but there wasn't any. Maybe it'll be there nearer Christmas, or maybe, as it's a small branch, I will have to visit a bigger one for that. Being a German company, their chocolate-coated gingerbread is very nice indeed.
  13. Just bought some diced Reindeer from Lidl. Father Christmas may be a little slow this year.
  14. "Scottish Girlie Rugby" - oh, for a @RUMeltdown account
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7z1vZI5dAwM
  16. Wow. Just wow. I played this against a perfectly decent clean pressing based on the original release mix, as botched by the record label. Compared to this new one based on The Band's original intentions, it sounds gutless and distant. Just like Mobile Fidelity's pressing of 'Big Pink', this is the only version anyone should ever need to own.
  17. An amazing live act, too. I have had an LP of theirs for years called Nice'n'Rough, which mixes their own songs with covers and the raw energy is amazing.
  18. Here's a treat - the video is not from the same source as the audio, but this is what 'River deep, Mountain high' sounded like before Phil Spector mixed it down to mono for commercial release. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsG2K_Js33o
  19. Historical revisionism can be so disappointing sometimes.
  20. Just arrived - the new Mobile Fidelity pressing of The Band's second album. If they've done as good a job as they did with 'Music from Big Pink', I'll be very pleased.
  21. Spoof story. Trouble is, it's so believable!
  22. Amazing what you can find on that there internet - this is rather charming. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWr0fBVjkhg
  23. Go to Twitter and search for #askharry
  24. ...and don't forget Neil Ruddock and Jan Molby.
