I am not sure what people want from Bateman? I suspect he was pretty high up the tackle count as well. Class player with a great work ethic.

Disagree on the latter paragraph. Bateman is an international class forward with bucket loads of experience both in terms of the team and representation at this level. Farrell is a cracking SL player but has very limited international experience. I’d take Bateman every time as ‘form’ isn’t everything. There is a reason why the Aussies continue to pick some players in key positions over others more in form.

I understand why Hill is in there. Experience. When you look at the backline, it’s incredibly inexperienced at this level. I however, would definitely have Mulhern in over Lees. I’d probably have Currie in over Farrell too. We really need to play some younger forwards.

Always going to be a tough gig trying to beat Australia in Australia. Better chance next week. That said, international rugby being played involving Australia is not to be scoffed at. More of it please. The more of it will also improve their competitors. So I just wish the NRL would allow internationals during SOO. It’s so important for the broader sport. We’d easily dominate the Pacific if they would.
