  1. Have any of you good people got a foolproof recipe for fish pie? It's a dish that I get badly wrong every single time. What usually happens is the mashed potato collapses into the fish and sauce, creating an almighty gloopy mess. This afternoon our local fishmonger was flogging off a load of scrag end fish pieces so I thought I'd give it another go, but I'm still not sure how...
  2. i just spent a week in Wales with a close friend who happens to be a big player in designing speakers and sound systems. He's done the sound for many an artist including the Rolling Stones. He said that Lee Perry was a remarkable talent, whatever he chose to do on the night. One time, Perry freely rapped over a backing track for about 90 minutes and painted a mural on a huge canvas while doing so. He said it was quite bizarre yet brilliant entertainment. I suppose that kind of sums him up.
  3. Weird. Na Na Na etc is awful, yet it could have been really cool. The bit where she pushes her top away to reveal more shoulder gave it away and should have been edited out. It's about the image for her above the music.
  4. Ok, I'm not with you on this at all, so why not have a different thread on whether the book version was better than the film etc? I don't watch films but I read loads of books. It detracts from the book thread plus there's already a film thread.
  5. Can I have a little gripe about this thread, even though it's absolutely brilliant and has massively inspired me and influenced my reading choices for ages? There's a separate thread for films so I don't know why people keep comparing books they read to the film version. Thanks
  6. I always thought tennis was a bit ###### because you seem to spend more time fetching the balls back than actually playing. Didn't realise the Assclown was into it, but it seems apt that he is. Apologies Futtocks, I know you like a bit repetitive tennis grunting and groaning and what have you.
  7. I don't know who Alexis Petridis is, but he seems quite bitter about something. Who will history recall, Petridis or Van Morrison, I wonder?
  8. Wrens are so lovely to have around. I saw one in the park this morning, bustling around the twigs and leaves. Quite an unusual sight but just ace.
  9. I couldn't watch the video, I was too sad about the story. Hopefully it will be a happy ending. This morning my chilly walk with the dog was heartily warmed up by the presence of about a dozen housemartins buzzing around 'Paul's Pond' at Breary Marsh in north Leeds. I saw jays dashing around while the blackbirds and song thrushes belted out their calls. I was then joined nearby by 2 courting treecreepers, about 6 pairs of mandarins and then, surprisingly, a few lapwings dancing, singing and generally showing off above the adjacent farm.
  10. First swallows of the year at Wheldrake Cricket Club, just south of York, yesterday
