  1. I thought it was clear from my opening line asking for racists to be given a break that my post wasn't serious. I understand the point about fame but I think there is a point to shaming the crowds into doing something and self-regulating. By creating an underworld of racism it can help it to grow, and if it isn't publicly shamed people don't necessarily know that action is being taken. In some of the recent incidents, stewards and fans surrounding have just stood and watched.
  2. I do wish we would just give the racists a break though. Why do we keep highlighting their abhorrent actions? Ignore them, they will go away without causing any harm.
  3. People like that should be charged and banned. But education and announcements have their place particularly when young people are involved.
  4. I finally did my first ever Parkrun on Saturday in Edinburgh. Very enjoyable, 33.5 minutes so very much plodding but I achieved my goal of jogging the whole way round.
  5. yeah it was, coastal for large parts so beautiful scenery but on paths, invested in good walking socks and they worked wonders! I surprised myself that I managed it *relatively* comfortably as there were a lot of people really struggling - but I seemed to get my head in a good place and only stopped for toilets and a sock change. It was the amount of time that was the mental thing for me, and I was pleased with how I handled that. Spotify was my best friend yesterday!
  6. not really mate. I stupidly didn't book the day off work, so moving round at a snails pace when I need to do anything. Some say they haven't noticed a difference. Must say I really enjoyed the walk, was on my own so just had my earphones on and head down, and did it in 7hrs, versus a par of 8hrs, so was pretty pleased - managed to raise £650 too for a youth charity my Wife setup earlier this year. A good day all round.
  7. As part of my drive to get fit and healthy following my Afib discovery I'm walking 24 miles today at Edinburgh's Kiltwalk. Start at 10am, the regret kicked in about 15mins ago...
  8. Surely the 'common sense'thingbis not yo have windows that open wide enough for people to put things out? The fact that they dont could absolutely lead people to think that there is enough space between the train and another object. There is no excuse for the public to be exposed to such danger.
  9. Yes, it is one of our easy ones when we have had a tough day of toddler battling! A nice easy watch with some pretty sharp humour, and I must admit Sofia Vergara is more watchable as every series passes!
  10. Yes, never seen it, but the new ads have made me consider it, may give that a go!
  11. We found the same tbh. We moved onto other things, too much choice around.
  12. As we saw in the 'democracy' scene, not everybody was happy that Jon had murdered Dani. Justice had to be seen to be done - he had just murdered the Queen. I agree with the point about it being a rush job - had these things developed properly over 5 or so episodes taking it to a 10 parter, they could have done it justice and it would have felt more natural. At times GoT has been excruciatingly slow, so to finish the story off so quickly was a really bizarre choice.
  13. The horse thing was a perfect example of style over substance. They had a chance of a lovely shot, knowing that it would create theories, and went with it - it is almost trolling. I think I see the nightwatch as just another community now. Their purpose may not to be to protect the border against the white walkers, but to many of these people it was their home, so I just saw it as an army base and home to many. They did also say that they needed somewhere for prisoners like Jon to be banished to. I didn't have a problem with that.
  14. People's different styles, level of uncomfortable ness and stupidity is what makes the show for me. The best thing is where the contestants take different approaches and we are seeing that this series.
  15. Once again pacing was an issue, but that was never going to change with 80mins left, but there was nothing that didnt make sense to me.
  16. Happy to report, I was pretty happy with that ending. After being so critical of this series I'm glad it finished in a way I was cool with.
  17. Yes, she was a favourite of ours too. There was only one series which was weak - I think it was the one with Tim Vine and in many challenges all 5 contestants just did the same logical thing, which doesn't make for great viewing. This year so far the challenges have been good in offering plenty of freedom for creativity. It's a great show though.
  18. It is one of the good things I find with taskmaster, well known comedians aren't necessarily the best at this. Tim Vine was terrible and not funny tbh, whereas I've ended up rooting for non-comedians a fair bit. It's a good mix this time. That said, Bob Mortimer was excellent!
  19. Really enjoying the panel this year after 2 episodes.
  20. I am enjoying the whole experience and the tension, and ultimately the show, when I say things like I hated last nights, I say that relative to the quality of the show and the high regard I hold it in. IMHO I am still talking this being a 7 or perhaps 8 out of 10, as there was a lot to appreciate, but there was an awful lot that jarred with me. Despite some of my grumbles, as I have said, if you wrote down the plots and arcs, they would all make sense, I think it is actually the detail and the execution that is letting it down. Dani becoming the Mad Queen makes sense and there have been signs all along, but they really clumsily executed it at the end imho. They spent the first 2hrs of the series having a chit-chat and reunion, then 3 of the next 4.5hrs with huge battle scenes. The story and character development has gone by the wayside somewhat and I think that jars. But I will absolutely be considering staying up til 3.30am to watch it next week!!!
  21. They could probably have trimmed the episode by half an hour last night. You soon got over the shock of her going nuclear, and for me it soon became boredom as we saw another group of people running away before the dragon burned them. And again. And again.
  22. If you read the stories written down, they are all fine, the pacing has undermined most of the character development that has happened over 7 years. What they did with Cersei though, I will never forgive!
  23. I do agree with this, whilst it is fun to discuss theories, you can't dictate what the show and the writers are going to do, you have to accept that what happens is what the show actually is. My issue is that I am not finding this series that enjoyable. For the first time last night, I found large parts of it boring, and ended up chatting during it. Poor writing and corny plots that are not in keeping with the rest of the quality of the show are fair game for criticism. I'm currently listening to the Entertainment Weekly GoT podcast, and so far they share many of my concerns/annoyances.
  24. I can't disagree on the first three. The developments make sense, and I said to my wife earlier that on paper there is clear rationale for their arc and they have been coming, I think it was some of the execution. Dani hadn't had enough time for the anger to really grow - sure there were signs she was going mad, and it is in her genes clearly, but I think because it was rushed, it came across like it was because her bestie had been murdered and her crush wouldn't get it on with her because he wasn't a fan of incest. The theme of love vs fear was clumsily done, as had the liberated Kings Landing like she had other cities the people would have loved her too, so some of the logic went out of the window. Unfortunately her anger was mainly portrayed as her being irrational, I'd have preferred it had she just killed Jon! Fair point on Arya, but it just makes the whole story unnecessary tbh. We spent an awful lot of time with her, and ultimately it was done for effect - showing the horror of this war (which they did excellently). But it didn't go with her character arc, and it was still left to a man to make her see sense. Sansa is still a favourite of mine, but the writers haven't painted her in glory, she has just come across as a spoilt brat and has some responsibility for the massacre. Cersei was the one that did it for me. It was such a weak finish for her. Gutting.
