Totally respect your opinion but (other than Wakey) we're all in the same boat regarding no chance of promotion and reluctance to spend money on players as a result. Nevertheless we have put together a very competitive but small-ish squad. Still not really seen HKR's DR players, some key players to return and I think we may yet see another signing or two when the season gets underway properly - whether that be season long loans or whatever - but even as things are now I would think that some of the sides you have in your top 6/7 would be quite envious of some of the quality we have. I think we should also bear in mind that if we're judging our potential on what we've seen so far - this is a very new team who haven't played together before - including a couple who have not played 1st team RL before. In answer to your question though if we don't finish above Batley and Sheffield something has gone very wrong imo and I think we should be looking at top 4

sorry meant to vote - I would have had Minikin in my 3 but I dont think it would have changed the scores

MOM Featherstone Rovers v Dewsbury friendly
RobLambert replied to jamescolin's topic in Featherstone Rovers
1. Aekins 2. Springer 3. Bowes -
Couldn't make it unfortunately but very pleased with the win. Sounds like Arnold went well but Wallace was not so impressive. A shame as I was hoping they could work well together. Either way I'm sure they will make a good coaching team

Gutted about this. Puts things into perspective. All the best Tom.

I love that fact. We're not quite a Barnstoneworth but there are certain similarities in terms of the lows we have had to endure. Anyway lets hope we win a few games in 2024.....
-
Careful didn't some people used to say that about Steady.....
-
Wow with that try scoring rate why didn't we keep hold of him and tempt Dwain Chambers out of retirement for the other wing...

Good choice Ray. The testing of Eric Olthwaite is a personal favourite. I quite identify with Eric. I saw some really black black pudding last week.

I'm looking forward to seeing Manou but it does seem to be shaping up to be like the 2014 ? season when we signed a number of fringe players with potential - who we hoped would break in to the first team - but most of them didn't progress as we had hoped. I think it was that season that we signed Jamal Chisholm (No relation I don't think) who had just been voted the fastest man in the universe or something. I'm not sure he even played a proper game for us ? I get that we either don't have the money / or we'd be (rightfully) crazy to spend all our cash given the new system, so hopefully this year some of those speculative signings will turn out to be gems.....

I think he had a top job with the Ireland ru coaching team. Quite a few years back though....

He'll have lost half a yard of pace but we are desperate......

We seem to have been saying at the start of the last few seasons that we need to hit the ground running and all that - but actually if we've learnt anything from recent seasons - we can hit the ground walking backwards and given the system we have it really doesn't matter does it. We just need to be hanging in with a chance of the play-offs then assess where we need to strengthen for the business end. Easier said than done but London managed it. Its a joke.

I think I remember that one. Steak and chips with a pint wasn't it ?

phew I thought it was just me that kept my shoot annuals handy

Very 'Shoot' annual 1980

I wonder if he knew

Just out of interest - and if you don't mind me asking - which of last years squad (who won the league by a record margin) did it for you ?
-
Bit of both for me. I think when he was scoring more tries it was more to do with better supply. I don't recall in the last couple of years him missing many chances / half chances.

Would it be wrong to start watching Donny next year ?.... I mean it will be more like watching Fev, than watching Fev....
-
Well it would be no good if we all thought the same and its good to see other peoples viewpoint but I'm struggling to find a middle ground with these comments. If Briscoes replacement is an improvement and he flops at Donny I'll come back with a humble apology....
