  1. He said he's not interested since Sherpa Van stopped sponsoring it.
  2. 3 Body Problem was great but unfortunately, at this time, there's no guarantee that they'll be another series, apparently it has had mixed reviews and at this moment in time, hasn't done as well as expected, which is strange really because everyone who I've talked to about really enjoyed it.
  3. I don't know the reasons for Southport's non re-election but in the early 70s Barrow had the same vote's as Hereford and lost on the 2nd vote, the reasons given for Barrows failed re-election was its geographical location and plans to build a speedway track around the pitch. Anyway some say that re-election was stacked in favour of the league clubs.
  4. Halifax were playing in the Midland League which was a prominent non league competition and were elected to the football league along with Lincoln and Chesterfield, who were also playing in the Midland League. Anyway if the Football League allowed teams to enter from Ashington, Nelson and Stalybridge then there's no reason why they wouldn't allow a team from Halifax in . I've rambled on a bit here, what I'm trying to say is, it wasn't some kind of a strategic move to allow Halifax into the League, not when there were already 4 professional teams in West Yorkshire.
  5. Bayer Leverkusen win the Bundesliga which is good to see, in the early 2000s they lost the Champions League final, threw the League away and lost the German cup final, opposition fans gave them the nick name "Bayer Neverkusen" Its advantage Man City in the Premier League after both Liverpool and Arsenal slip up, you can never be too sure but I can't see City slipping up now. In the Championship nobody seems to want to get promoted. Ipswich, Leeds and Leicester all hitting bad patches at the wrong time, Southampton have now come into contention. In League 1, Portsmouth need 1 point from their last 3 to earn promotion with Derby and Bolton battling it out for the last automatic spot. In League 2, Stockport and Wrexham are promoted with Mansfield needing a point to join them. Finally in the National League, York got a vital win against Woking in front of 7500 fans but still need another win to guarantee safety.
  6. The thing with Leeds United, for the first 40 years they had a mediocre team, in that time they were a yo-yo club between the top 2 divisions and had only 1 top 5 finish and 1 FA Cup Quarter final to there name, obviously that changed when Revie came. During that 40 years, if you're from Leeds and you want to see a club from your city challenge for honours, you're gong to follow RL.
  7. Fair point but there was also an appetite in these places for a football team.
  8. I don't think the Football League saw Wigan as a target of strategic value , Wigan Borough were formed in 1920 and were admitted to the inaugural Division 3 North since most of the towns and cities in the north had teams in the top 2 divisions, they wouldn't have been spoilt for choice for teams to enter the newly formed 3rd tier. As for Wigan Athletic, they were a strong non-league team in the 1970s and were voted into the League by chairmen of Football League clubs not the Football League.
  9. When you look at the history of the Football League, teams that gained entry to the Football League had to earn their corn in regional leagues before they gained entry, with the exception of West Yorkshire and Hull, Bradford City, Bradford Park Avenue, Huddersfield Town, Hull City and Leeds United were fast tracked into League either immediately or within 2-3 years of being formed. Its almost as though the Football League saw Rugby League as a threat.
  10. It was definitely weird looking, normally when I see a bird I don't recognise I try and make a mental note of all its features but as there were people stood next to it I didn't stop to get a good look, I just noted that it was black and had a red eye ring, it looked that weird that as I was walking away I doubted to my self that it was a duck, I thought it could be some type of Guinea Fowl. Once I got home and saw its picture I realised it was a Muscovy Duck,
  11. Walking through Purston Park today, I got to the lake, there was a couple and their child feeding the ducks, they were surrounded by Mallards and a couple of Canada Geese, also there was a duck that I've never seen before, it was strange looking, black with a thick red rim around its eye, I assumed it was some kind of escapee, when I got home I googled " black duck with red eyes" , it came up with Muscovy Duck, apparently they're native to North and South America and in the wild they are very shy and can be aggressive when defending their young so this was probably some kind of escapee turned wild. I was just wandering how common they are in the wild and do they have some kind of breeding population, anybody seen any?
  12. I'm a member of BTO's garden bird watch where you record garden species throughout the year, this year I've recorded Sparrowhawks on 4 occasions and usually do throughout the year, we tend to get between 10-20 sparrows around the feeders but you're right about the Goldfinch's though, we tend to get 1 or 2, 4 at most where as 20 years ago we got loads, on one occasion I counted 30 and there was probably more than that.
  13. Talking about Buzzards, its not unusual to see them flying overhead from my garden in Fev, usually March/April and September/October, I've already had 3 sightings in the last few weeks, on one occasion last September I counted 9. Also in the last couple of years I've started seeing Red Kites, again usually March/April and September/October, you get a really good view as well, as they sometimes fly as low as the rooftops.
  14. Norwich did it about 2010-2011, I don't think its been done since,
  15. Yeah, I saw that, that was a good result, although it was a good time to play Chesterfield. Hopefully they can challenge for promotion next season.
  16. I'll give that a miss, I don't want my head chopped off by a sword wielding woman, just because I've got the wrong log-in credentials
  17. Are York making a concerted effort to get back in the Football League then.
  18. I didn't like her during her run in the 80s but watching just 20 minutes of her in The Giggle, she came across so much better and I'm really looking forward to seeing more of her in the future.
  19. As a kid growing up in the 70s, Doctor Who was always on in our house but I couldn't really remember much about it, about 4 years ago I watched every classic episode that was available, on this rewatch, my earliest memory was The Carnival of Monsters when I would have been 3 years old, I also remembered bits from Invasion of the Dinosaurs, The Green Death, Planet of the Spiders, Robot, The Seeds of Doom, The Power of Kroll and Logopolis, I could only remember certain scenes from these episodes and remembered absolutely nothing about the plot, obviously I could remember the Daleks, Cybermen and The Master but these were just generic memories and couldn't pin them to any specific stories. From a personal point of view, the best period of classic who was from Patrick Troughton through to Tom Bakers 4th series, after that it gets a bit average for my liking. As for Peter Davison, I liked his take on The Doctor but there were too many average stories for my liking, although his last story, The Caves of Androzani does very well in fan polls .
  20. You obviously haven't seen them under Hodgson, Capello, McClaren, Erikson, Keegan, Taylor, Robson then.
  21. I was in 2 minds as to when to watch the up coming series, midnight or Saturday evening, after watching the trailer its definitely going to be midnight, although depending how good they are, I may rewatch on Saturday evening.
  22. I must admit, I loved Moffatt as show runner, he also wrote some cracking stories when RTD was last in charge. While I'm not too bothered about the broadcast schedule, I do have a slight concern about how much influence Disney have, they had to film an extra scene for the Xmas special on Disney's request, I suppose time will tell.
  23. I may have to remove this post or a certain journalist might see it and run with the story.
