Coventry Bears News
Coventry Bears Demolish Peterlee Pumas in 14 Try Blitz By Robin Allen Coventry Bears 78 – 6 Peterlee Pumas The Bears played Peterlee on Saturday at the Xcel Leisure Centre and had just too much power and pace for the side from the North East. With three tries in the opening 14 minutes including two for the home side, it was clear from the outset that this was going to be quite an open affair. Aussie prop Kenny Kelliher proved to be the Bears lynch pin as he played a key role in their attack as the home side scored a further four tries before the half hour. Both defences then stayed strong going into break with the score at 30 – 6. After the break, Kelliher continued his dominance in the Bears forward charge as he added two tries and a conversion to the score sheet. Coventry University winger Liam Scott continued his good form with two scintillating runs form deep breaking the Pumas defence to score two further tries, taking his season total to nine. The game which was being played at the Bears training ground seemed to turn into a training session as centre Alex Mills-Barker rounded off the match by scoring his hat-trick. Full time result Coventry Bears 78 – 6 Peterlee Pumas Alan Robinson commented; “This was a great result and was good to bounce back from our defeat two weeks ago to Featherstone Lions. It was pleasing to see some of the younger players in the club step up and perform well. Next week we play Blackbrook which will be a much tougher contest.” Team 1. Duncan Barrett 2. Alex Sweeney 3.
