Richard Horne says the result was the most important thing after beating Coventry Bears in the Challenge Cup third round.

A 38-16 victory saw the Dons progress to round four, with the head coach identifying areas for improvement.

He said: “It was one of those games where the score-line doesn’t really reflect the game, they started the better of the two sides and caused us problems.

“We spoke about attitude and applying ourselves in the right way, everyone tagged us as the favourites but that didn’t matter.

“In little spells we created and scored, that’s what helped us to get in front but there are a lot of areas to improve on.”

With a longer turnaround between games coming up, Horne wants his players to relax and recover ahead of a trip to Whitehaven next up in Betfred League One.

He added: “We’re in the hat for the next round, we’ll wait and see who we get but the main thing for us was to make sure we got through.

“The boys can go away and spend time with the families and it’s not often at this level that they get the opportunity to do that.”
