  • French: “We want to back up last week’s performance, but we know Huddersfield have good individuals in their squad.”

Bevan French says Wigan Warriors finishing top of the Betfred Super League would be a massive ‘boost’ heading into the Play-Offs.

Adrian Lam’s take on Huddersfield Giants this evening, where victory would see the Warriors secure the League Leaders’ Shield for the first time since 2012.

French says the Wigan squad want to build on their derby victory over St Helens and put themselves in the best position in final stages of the competition.

“It would mean a lot, that alone should be enough motivation for this week, it will be a huge boost to us to have the week off too and would do us a lot of justice.

“We want to back up last week’s performance, but we know Huddersfield have good individuals in their squad and they can play pretty good rugby league.”

After committing his future to Wigan last Sunday, French is focusing on developing his game further.

“I’m very excited, I am learning a lot here and look forward to continuing my growth here both on and off the field. You have to improve and evolve every week.”

The 24-year-old also spoke fondly of the Club’s new badge, stating: “We have to move forward as a club into the modernised world. It’s the right thing to do moving forward.”

Friday’s match could see Wigan legend Tommy Leuluai make his 300th appearance for the Club.

French cited the half-back’s importance to the Warriors squad: “He’s one of the easiest people to go and talk to and learn from. He doesn’t say much around training but it’s good because when he does it’s at the right time and everyone zones in and listens.”
