Adrian Lam is expecting a ‘tough challenge’ when Wigan face Huddersfield Giants on Friday evening.

The Cherry and Whites take on Ian Watson’s side for the second time in a week when they travel to the John Smith’s Stadium, after winning 16-12 at home last Sunday.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday in his weekly press conference, the Warriors head coach began discussing facing the Giants again shortly after last week’s win.

“I thought they had a few stand-out players last week, and whoever they field they always have players that can hurt you. It’ll be a tough challenge because they are desperate for a win too.

“It’s going to be a really tough job going to Huddersfield.”

With the possibility of a few experienced players nearing a return to action, Lam discussed how this week’s game could be crucial in setting up the next phase of Wigan’s season.

“This is potentially a big turning point in our season. If we go and win, then we have a couple of players coming back in, the confidence starts to build. Then we can get back to the best rugby we can play.

“We have to believe in each other until that confidence starts to grow.”

The head coach also highlighted a number of players hoping to return from injury in the near future.

“Hardaker is about two weeks, so too is Manfredi and Morgan Smithies. John Bateman and Jai Field are a little further off than those.”

With the confirmation of the lifting of restrictions by the government earlier this week, Lam discussed his eagerness to get his side back playing in front of big crowds.

“I’m incredibly excited for the fans to return fully. For us the first home game will be Wakefield in a couple of weeks, so that will be great. We are looking forward to it.”
