Wigan Warriors Community Foundation and the first team playing squad have again been out in the community for Warriors Unite.

Throughout the UK lockdown at the start of 2021, the Community Foundation created a new style of delivery, offering virtual alternatives to its usual programmes and keeping members of the community connected with free online activities.

Now, the programme Warriors Unite returns in person as the Foundation staff and first team players hope to unite the town and aim to reach out to children and adults and provide interactive, engaging activities so they can be active, have fun and feel part of the community.

Taking place every Friday afternoon, Foundation staff and players are going out around the borough to deliver engaging sessions in person in high schools, primary schools and at Robin Park Arena. The delivery is also being extended to the Foundation’s community groups such as Rugby Memories, as well as visiting the Rainbow Ward at Wigan Infirmary.

Two weeks ago, the Warriors started to deliver sessions as part of the programme’s return. Week one saw the Warriors in the Ashton and Bryn area, with 23 players supporting four visits and one session at Robin Park Arena.

Week two saw the squad in the Abram and Platt Bridge area, once more 23 players were on hand across the sessions – here is where they visited last week:

Week 2 – Friday 26th November

  • Dean Trust High School
  • Standish Community High School at Robin Park Arena
  • St Mary’s CE Primary School

As well as delivering sessions in the Abram and Platt Bridge area, a number of players visited a brand new Rugby League exhibition in the Museum of Wigan Life on Library Street.

The museum opened its doors to the public on Saturday, which provides a historical look back at the sport, celebrating its past and presented – both within the borough and internationally.

Ahead of the official opening, Warriors players went down to take a look, alongside St John Fisher’s rugby team and Wigan Council lead David Molyneux. The museum is open every Tuesday to Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

🏆🏉🏆We had some special guests this afternoon for a sneak preview of the 'gerrumonside' rugby league exhibition. It looks amazing and opens tomorrow 😍@WiganWarriorsRL @WiganWarriorsCF @RLWC2021 @WiganMuseum pic.twitter.com/kRLC53bPsq
