Superb stuff. 

If there's one thing this sport has been missing it is the constant references to buffets whenever the RFL is mentioned.

So much of what people said about him was couched in this sort of terminology. It was really pathetic in retrospect that we didn't have a higher standard of discussion about his successes (of which there were quite a few) and failures.

I don't have a subscription, so not seen the article in full, but the preview that loaded before being prompted to login / subscribe said Leigh and Leeds were 2 of the clubs looking for this.

This just confuses me.

The article suggests removing Simon Johnson as chair is the aim but is Johnson the most powerful figure at the RFL? I genuinely can't work out who is responsible for what and who wields what authority/power/influence and in which areas of governance. At the same time, RLC seems to be losing members of its board, including its chair. 

All a bit odd.

The RFL aren't pulling up any trees, but to go back to someone who's record was questionable at best is the definition of madness.

Wood may have something to offer in a background roll, but what the RFL need is new blood and a decent salary to go with it. 

Committee men have overseen the contraction of the sport. The game needs a visionary.

One figure who may be a good candidate is Clint Goodchild,the York Chairman. I really like what he had to say when the LE interviewed him and he seems to have something about him. He's commercially aware and understands the value of exposure.

It seems most if not all sports need some new blood in them - what about getting someone in the twilight of their playing days, who will have a better understanding of the game today and in the future?

Thanks. Didn't get the option to close it on my browser. But then opening in an incognito window worked, because closing the cookie banner closed the subscription popup as well. Weird. Just like the story.

Hetherington has always been a Wood fan, not without reason; not sure what Beaumont is up to. 

It's definitely not a great idea to go backwards but the current RFL leadership are distinctly uninspiring. Regardless until we give the chosen leader absolute or near absolute authority with regard to administering the league, including Super League, there's not much point making changes.

I do seem to have it in my head that Beaumont rated Wood too, but I could be misremembering. 

Wood did oversee more funding to clubs outside SL, and DB was in the lower division at the time.

The massive rigging of the Championship funding in favour of a small group of clubs happened under Wood.
