Hull KR coach Craig Sandercock claims his side’s Challenge Cup loss to Warrington earlier today was probably decided by the ‘bounce of the ball’.
The Rovers lost 24-28 after throwing away a decent lead they built early on.
“It was a very close game and the bounce of the ball probably decided it,” said Sandercock.
“The players worked really hard for each other today in tough conditions and we had a couple of good opportunities there in the second half.
“But Warrington aren’t one of the best sides in the competition for nothing and you have to work really hard if you want to score against them. I was a little bit disappointed with our last tackle plays at times and it’s something we need to work really hard at.
“We need to make sure that if we get it into those kinds of positions again that we come up with better options.
“It’s a game of inches and if Rhys Lovegrove could have scored at that stage in the game, which he had a really good opportunity to do, then we’d have been 20-6 up. However, he didn’t, Warrington got a tap and went up the other end and scored. Like I say, it’s a game of inches.
“We’ve got that belief that we can compete at the elite level. As I’ve said, Warrington were at absolute full-strength today and we couldn’t buy a penalty for love nor money in that second half.
“So to compete is a decent effort and we just need to regroup tomorrow, train hard during the week and turn up at Warrington on Friday with a good attitude.”
