Daryl Powell proud of resilient players

Castleford coach Daryl Powell has added his voice to the growing campaign against video referees after claiming it cost his side a more comfortable win against Wigan in the Challenge Cup.

In Saturday’s clash, which the Tigers won 4-16, Luke Dorn had a 28th-minute try ruled out for obstruction, which was extremely questionable.

“The same video referee seems to be consistently hitting us at the moment, which is disappointing,” Powell told the Pontefract and Castleford Express.

“But the team just pushes these sorts of things off and just gets on with it. That’s a real strong element of what we’ve got at the moment, we don’t let things bother us too much.

“There were a few line ball decisions that went against us. I think the bounce of the ball seemed to be going the other way as well. Whether it was the bounce of the ball or a couple of close refereeing decisions that hurt us, I thought we were unlucky not to be further ahead in the first half.

“But eight line breaks to two over the course of the game showed really the attacking threat we had. And the defensive effort from everybody was unbelievable in the second half.”
