St Helens coach Nathan Brown has admitted that, during his time in England and at Langtree Park, he has come to learn the “hatred or respect” that is in place between the Saints and great rivals Wigan Warriors.
As Grand Final week kicked off today in front of a packed press conference at Old Trafford, Brown insisted that although both clubs have great respect for each other, it is a fantastic game to be involved in because of the huge rivalry that exists between the sides.
“From a game point of view, it’s a great thing to be involved in,” Brown said. “When you come to St Helens, you learn to get that hatred or respect, dislike whatever you like to call it.
“I think both clubs respect each other a lot but there is something different about it.”
Brown, who will head back to Australia following the Grand Final after securing a release from his contract at the Saints, refused to talk about his own future to the assembled media, instead wishing to focus solely on the game.
“It’s part of the job, coaches come and go, that’s the reality of it.
“I’ll be sad to be leaving England because I’ve a lot of good friends and a lot of great memories from over here. I’d rather talk about the players because that’s what it’s about at the end of the day.”
