England hooker Josh Hodgson is confident Steve McNamara’s men have what it takes to cause an upset at the Four Nations and come home with some silverware.
The 24-year-old, who recently joined Canberra Raiders on a two-year deal from Hull KR, is one of two hookers in the squad and is therefore expected to get plenty of minutes under his belt down under.
“There’s no reason why we can’t go there and win,” Hodgson told the Hull Daily Mail.
“It would be amazing to be a part of an England success in Australia and New Zealand.
“There is some great talent in this squad including those already playing in the NRL.
“Confidence is high within the camp and we believe we can go there and be a success.
“To play for your country is a fantastic achievement and with this being my first ever tour, it’s a dream come true.
“As far as I’m concerned, I’m going there to work hard and tick as many boxes as I can.
“It [selection] came as a surprise to me. I wasn’t expecting it to be honest and I had a feeling I’d miss out.
“I’ve always wanted to play for my country so this is a great opportunity for me to do something very special.
“It was a brief call from Steve who told me Daryl [Clark] and I were selected and that I deserved my place in the squad.
“Now it’s down to me to get fit and work my way into the team for the opener against Samoa.”
