James Donaldson out to achieve potential at Hull KR

James Donaldson is relishing his “fresh start” at new club Hull Kingston Rovers and is determined to live up to the potential he showed as a youngster.

The former England schoolboys forward, 23, joined the Robins at the end of the 2014 season following five tumultuous years at Bradford Bulls. With a two-year deal signed, he’s happy to be able to focus on his performances.

“I wanted to make a fresh start after all the troubles there, so this is how I’m viewing my move,” he told the Hull Daily Mail.

“It’s as if I am just coming in to my first Super League club again. I don’t know any of the moves or too many of the players so it’s all brand new for me.

“This first week back has given me the chance to get to know a few of the lads and I’m settling in well. Everyone has made me really welcome.

“It’s been a good first week and a tough one at that.

“The full squad isn’t back yet, but we are still being put through our paces.

“Obviously, I want to make a good first impression with the coach and everyone else at the club so I’ve been working my hardest to do that.

“I want to be in the starting 13 and be in the hunt as the starting loose-forward, and I’ll do anything I’m asked to make sure that’s possible.

“I’ve had to prove myself all my career. I know I am starting again at the bottom of the pile here, but I’ve come to prove myself to the staff and the fans.

“I feel good and I’ve never really had any problems with my fitness. I consider that as one of the strongest parts of my game.

“I just need to work on my ball-handling skills and make sure I’m not too keen. Sometimes when you’re new, you can try to do too much. I’ll try to guard against that and make sure I play my normal game.”
