There is big breaking transfer news from Australia’s NRL, as Kangaroos halfback Daly Cherry-Evans will leave Manly at the end of 2015 following the club’s withdrawal of a contract renewal.
The Sea Eagles informed ‘DCE’ that he had a deadline of midday Monday to accept the contract renewal – described by the club as a “very good deal” – but with that deadline now passed, Sea Eagles CEO Joe Kelly told AAP that the offer has been withdrawn.
It means Cherry-Evans will be looking for new employers for 2016, with Gold Coast and Cronulla the two clubs likely to be seriously courting the Australian international.
“We’ve been talking about this for three-and-half months now and we set him a deadline of midday on Monday and that has come and gone,” Kelly told AAP.
“At the end of the day we’ve offered Daly what we consider a very good deal. But the reality is that we have a big game on Friday and we want to focus fully on that and this is affecting our preparations.”
