Marginet hat-trick as Rovers overcome strong Dewsbury challenge

Featherstone Rovers moved into the top four of the Kingstone Press Championship tonight at the Tetley’s Stadium, as a hat-trick from Rémy Marginet helped them to overcome a strong challenge from Dewsbury Rams to gain a 28-38 verdict.

In front of a crowd of 1,798 spectators the sides were level 20-20 at half-time, with the Rams scoring tries from Scott Hale, Anthony Thackeray and Dalton Grant, with Kieran Hyde converting all of them and adding a penalty.

In a tit-for-tat game, Andy Bostock had opened Featherstone’s account, with Will Sharp adding a second, before Marginet added his first two tries. Paul Sykes added two out of four conversions.

And with the game finely balanced the Rams again took the lead at the start of the second half, when Hyde added a penalty.

But Featherstone then took control of the match, as Marginet added his third try, with Will Milner and Jamie Cording also adding tries. Marginet converted two of them and added a penalty to give Rovers a 16-point margin.

The Rams, who battled all the way, scored a late try from Tom Hemingway, converted by Hyde, but they were unable to dent Rovers’ march into the top four.

A full report from this game will feature in Monday’s edition of Rugby League Express.
