Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane has praised fullback Matty Bowen for the way he has worked with youngster Ryan Hampshire during his time out of the side.
Hampshire has replaced Bowen as Wigan’s first choice fullback in recent weeks, putting in a string of impressive performances to help the Warriors beat the likes of St Helens and Warrington of late.
And Wane says that to his credit, Bowen has not “sulked” whilst sad on the sidelines, but has instead taken to working with Hampshire almost like a coach – with Wane admitting he has huge respect for Bowen.
“I’ve not said a word to him, and yet every day he’s worked with Rocky, like a coach,” Wane told the Wigan Today website.
“It’s not good for him being out of the team at the moment.
“But he’s not sulked, he’s trained hard and he understands the situation I’m in.
“I’ve absolutely so much respect for him.”
