Marshall satisfied despite defeat

Halifax head coach Richard Marshall was upbeat following his side’s 14-0 defeat to Widnes.

Fax put in a brilliant display and nullified Widnes for large periods, and only trailed four nil with three minutes remaining.

Defeat brought an end to Halifax’s nine game winning streak, but Marshall refused to be disappointed.

“I don’t think the performance surprised the players,” he said.

“They’re very confident and they play with spirit, vigour and passion, and that was in abundance today. The scoreline went away at the end, but that said when Mitch (Cahalane) goes to the line, if he has someone on his shoulder the whole complexion of the game changes.”

“I expected us to play well, but I didn’t know our defence would be that good today. There wasn’t a lot between the two teams. We haven’t played at our best but we were happy with a lot of our areas of our play today, so if we can get to our best, look out.”
