Wakefield fullback Kevin Locke has revealed he’s back, fresh and ready to go – and he said he’s determined to make up for lost time.
The New Zealand international suffered a torn pectoral muscle during his third game for the club but has avoided the surgery option to battle his way back to full fitness ahead of this weekend’s game with Hull KR.
And he said that he’s happy at the club and excited to get back out on the field.
“I’ve worked hard to get back to full fitness and I’m back and raring to go – although it’s up to the coach whether I play,” he said.
“The surgeon gave me a choice of whether to rehab it for three or four weeks and come back and assess it or be operated. I was heading down the path of getting it operated initially but I decided to work really hard on fixing it up in rehab and thankfully I’ve managed to avoid the surgery.
“I enjoy it here; there’s a good bunch of guys and I’d settled in really well, so for something like that to happen was a real setback for my career at Wakefield so early on. I’ve got a bit of a long-standing shoulder problem, something I’ve had for the last six years and when I reached out in the game it just tore, it was a freakish accident.”
