Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane has called on his side to be “smarter” if they are to win next Saturday’s Super League Grand Final.
The Warriors made it three Old Trafford appearances in a row by thrashing Huddersfield 32-8 to reach the final again, where they will meet either Leeds or St Helens next weekend.
And although Wane praised his side’s defensive efforts on the night, he wants his team to produce better attacking play if they are to win the title for a second time in three years.
“We defended really well, apart from the try they scored,” Wane said.
“We didn’t attack that good, I think we need to be smarter next Saturday but we had a good mentality.
“I’m a firm believer that the team that wants it most will generally get it and we showed a lot of desire.”
Wane again praised makeshift centre John Bateman after another impressive performance, and said his side will improve as they prepare for Old Trafford with a lengthy turnaround.
“Huddersfield have a lot of talent and they’ve the best defence in the comp but we hung in there and showed a lot of desire to defend our line,” he said.
“John Bateman was unbelievably good but there were lots of good performances, real good defensive performances, but we’ve still a fair bit to improve on. We’ll be better next week. We’ve got a nine day turn-around and we’ll use it wisely.”
