Dewsbury land hometown boy Sykes for 2016

Dewsbury Rams have confirmed the signing of experienced former Great Britain international Paul Sykes – completing a deal to bring him to his hometown club for 2016.

Sykes, who can operate at centre, full-back or half-back, brings a wealth of experience to the club following more that 15 years playing at Super League level.

Sykes has had spells in the top flight with the likes of Bradford, London and Wakefield, before a spell with Featherstone Rovers followed in 2015, with whom Sykes smashed through the 1,500 points barrier.

“I’m really pleased to sign for my hometown club,” said Sykes. “I spoke to Glenn (Morrison, head coach) about joining. He’s someone I’ve known for a while from our time together at Bradford and Wakefield.

“We discussed my plans and in the end I was delighted to be able to join Dewsbury.

“I’ve followed the club closely for a number of years and have been down to watch matches whenever I’ve had chance.

“And it’ll be a real privilege to be on the pitch representing them in 2016. I hope to bring versatility and experience to the team.

“Obviously I’m a player who’s been about a bit and who has played in a number of positions, and I’d be happy to slot in as required.

“There’s a good young group here and I’m looking forward to starting training with them.

“My goal is to continue to play at a high level in as many games as possible and to help this club continue its progress on the field.”
